Well, as Death inevitably does, Death paid an unexpected visit to Skins's island today.

One never knows about Death; it's rarely predictable, other than in the sense that it's inevitable, some time.

For the record, franksolich is sorely aware he could be next, not exactly an event to which he looks forward.

But it happens, and nothing can be done about it, other than the acknowledgement that God knows best.

An apparently very popular member of Skins's island died this day.  I've been really surprised at the outpouring of grief, the tearing of garments, the increased secretions from lachrymal glands, as I had no idea this primitive was so well-liked.....or even well-known.

In a very short time, the wail of the lamentations has far exceeded the sorrow expressed at the sudden unexpected death of Chief S itting Bull, the Greatest Primitive, Ever, twenty-six months ago.

Given the depth of the sorrow and melancholy of the primitives, wouldn't it be fitting if Skins shut down Skins's island for 24 hours, so as to properly and respectfully commemorate the MiddleFinger primitive?

I agree; this is why I've always been uncomfortable about posting threads directing condolences to primitives.

Unlike the primitives, decent and civilized people don't need to wear their virtue on their sleeve; there's no compelling need for us to show that we care.  God knows how each of us really feels about things, and God's the only One Who needs to know.

On my part, my sympathy for a primitive goes to the same extent to which the primitive has sympathy towards others; for example, I'd feel the same way about the demise of the defrocked warped primitive or Ms. Ed the unappellated eohippus, as they do about the demise of pre-born infants.

Or the same way about the demise of the mike_c primitive, as he does about the demise of all the victims of Saddam Hussein's genocide.  Or the same way about the demise of any of the cooking and baking primitives, as they do about the hundreds of millions who are starving to death.

How the primitives feel about others is a good guideline to how decent and civilized people should feel about them.

That is a very good point.

Is it a guilt thing with them, that causes them to be overly outward and overcompensatory about it?

On edit: I thought about it a bit...Is it a cred thing?

I voted "no".  Skinner, nor most of the DUmmies, care that one of their own has passed.

It depends entirely on what you wish to accomplish.

If you're thinking that shutting the DUmp down whenever one of Skinner's Island denizens assumes room temperature might cause a/the DUmmy/DUmmies to  stop the petty bickering, the grade school bitterness, resentment and envy and reflect upon the frail mortal existence they're passing through; possibly even reflect upon the life, ambitions & etc. of the other retards around them, then I think you're deluding yourself.

If on the other hand, you believe that by shutting down the DUmp for a day you might cause the primitives to expose themselves more clearly to the normal, rational human beings who unwittingly live and work in dangerous proximity to these clowns and thus llustrate to those normal, rational human beings the hazards  of permitting a troupe of poo-flinging howler monkeys to filter through a human society unrestricted, then I think  you may be on to something...

I was thinking more along the lines of this:

The primitives allege themselves to be caring, loving people.

One of their numbers has died, and they need to demonstrate how loving and caring they are, in more than just empty words; i.e., by temporarily giving up some pleasure of theirs.

It's for their own good; temporary self-sacrifice helps one deal with grief.

The primitives are pleasurably addicted to compulsively yipping and yapping on Skins's island; for many, it's the most "fun" thing they get out of life.

It would be good for the primitives to have a day off, to remember and mourn one of their own, just as the whole nation does after the passing of a president (Kennedy in 1963, &c., &c., &c.).

Otherwise, their sentiments of sorrow and grief are just so much hot air.

I'm sure that "MiddleFingerMom" is having one of Satan's middle fingers ream him right about now.

I have no idea what the MiddleFinger primitive's up to now, as God decides All, not any of us.

My attitude is that it makes no difference, no difference at all, what we here in this time and place think and say--whether we genuinely mourn or laughingly dance on a grave.

The MiddleFinger primitive's gone on to another state of existence beyond our reach, and couldn't care less what we here say or think.  One does him no good lauding him, and no harm trashing him.

I just checked.

It's scarcely 12 hours after the dolorous news, and after that initial Niagara Falls of gushing tears, it appears the primitives have already forgotten all about their departed pal; they're off to their usual topics now.

The primitives seem to have totally forgotten him now.

By lunch-time, it'll be "Middle.....who?"

Damn, they got short-term memories, the primitives.

If I happen to still be involved with conservativecave when I spring loose of this Mortal Coil, I don't want the event announced, as it'd be heart-breaking, being forgotten by the primitives.

Instead, upon the event, if it were to happen, I hope the administrators hurriedly assign my screen-name and account to Freeper or SGT Snuggle Bunny or another member who can imitate me the best, to carry on as if nothing at all had happened to franksolich.

Well, last night, the cascading of secretions from the lachrymal glands indicated this was going to go on for a while, the wails and lamentations.

I'm sure this broke the record for shortest mourning period ever.

The function of the DUmp is to keep the DUmmies amused and out of a place where they could cause mischief - the wails of pain and despair when high traffic levels lead of a loss of functionality on the site suggest that the DUmmies can't cope without their beloved island...should the DUmp be closed temporarily, then there is a danger that some of the DUmmies might go out into the real world and encounter real people. Such a proposition strikes me as being very dangerous to society - for the good of all, it's best that they stay there, away from places where they could cause harm.

Well, I give up hoping and waiting.

The primitives don't care; it's obvious.

And so the next time a primitive lights a campfire, "BWAAA, BWAAA, BWAAA, xxxx died!" it's acceptable to laugh in their faces and kick them in the teeth.

There's no point in spilling a hundredth of a teardrop when a primitive grieves, because it's all fake and short-lived anyway.

Maybe that's why the CalPig primitive plasters her mug all over Skins's island; maybe it's not really vanity, but a subconscious realization that the primitives'll forget who she was half an hour after she keels over, and all the pictures are there so they won't forget.

That, too . . . I think that it's a subconscious expression of the attention she gets IRL; meaning, very little.  She has to interject herself into a lot of things/threads to even be answered/considered.  (Who else does this describe?  Someone?  Anyone?  Bueller?)
