WHY do ex-offenders check the box "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?"

I don't get it. There is no law that you have to check the box, if you are a felon. None that I know of. It's not against the law to lie on an employment application. And, quite frankly, I don't think that employers have the right to ask, except in certain situations, and certainly it's none of their business if the offense has been over a certain number of years in the past.

WHY do ex-offenders check this box? It makes no sense to me. I understand if the employer does a background check, but many ask the question and then don't do the check, so what do you have to lose by lying?

1. You get fired when they find out and you get a bad reference.

If you check the box and add a brief explanation, you might get a hearing, and a job, and not be living with a cloud over your head.

2. I understand

I've been convicted of three murders my self and really don't understand this question? I always check no. Just kidding. I always thought it was against the law. Anyway everybody does background checks nowadays.

Yes indeed, the most obvious answer, is the one least likely to be uttered by a DUmmie.

Quote
WHY do ex-offenders check the box "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?"

Because its the truth, and truth is important.

With DUmmies, there is no truth, there are only shades of maybe.

I think non-offenders should lie on applications.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony? Yes
If so, please provide details: I killed the last person who wouldn't hire me.

I think it varies by state.  I heard this issue being discussed on the news yesterday.  But of course I can't find a decent link regarding it.

Laws

Quote
According to Sentencing Project, some states have enacted employment laws that limit the classifications of crimes on which employers can base their employment decisions. In some states juvenile records are off limits. In others employers can only ask about felonies. In the states that have expungement laws, the applicant is allowed by law to reply "no" to a question involving that record, regardless of the instructions on the employment application. In such a situation, if you are later fired for lying on your application, you may well have a cause of action against your employer.

7 out of 10 felons are democrats.

The democrat party run by criminals for criminals.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I've occasionally seen people get hired in spite of a disclosed conviction.  I've never seen anyone kept on after getting caught lying about it on his or her job application.

I don't understand why Melanie is obsessed with felons. She's highly educated in a field that pays her a substantial salary. She's a partner in the business and yet she associates with the likes of Tookie Williams.

I wonder how much money that all of her prison pen pals are conning out of her.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

Wait until one of them tries to go to another country not Canada/Mexico.

Many want to know about ARRESTS (not convictions or even if it went to trial).  The same is true for Global Entry and Nexus.  Heck, they know about that pack of gum you swiped when you were 10 and not even your MOM knew about that!

And it seems all countries have access to the same pool of background information (maybe all Interpol participants?)

Lying is a 100% guarantee you won't get the travel visa and for sure not Global Entry or Nexus.

Obama and the EEOC wanted to force employers to stop doing background checks on the basis that they are racist.  More blacks are not hired because of having committed crimes, so doing a background check on them is racist.

Someone ought to remind them, then, to apply the same standards and principles to firearms, that firearm background checks are racist...

Melanie's still alive after that last episode?  I would think she'd be a good candidate for the Dead Dummy pool, because this chick plays with fire.
