GoPro footage of Disneyland New Years fireworks

For this years NYE show at Disneyland we positioned 2 GoPro cameras to capture the moment as it happened.  Watch in HD mode

The first clip is our regular  "Believe in Holiday Magic" show we do during the holiday season.  This show went off at 8:30PM and is all shot from our air launch guns.

The next clip is the midnight NYE show shot at ground level facing the guns.  We used a combination of our air launch guns as well as the traditional black powder guns for this show.  The black powder guns were already loaded earlier in the day.  We had to reload the air launch guns after our 8:30 show.  The finale kicks in at 4:30 in the clip and was pretty intense.  The bunker we shoot from in the grey building next to the trash bin and was rocking throughout the finale.

The first one is a time lapse of us loading the black powder shells earlier in the day

This was the end result of several weeks of planning and 2 weeks of hard work building and prepping the shells.

What kind of procedure do you follow if you find a dud?

If the tube is smoking we will flood the tube with water and let it sit for a while to make sure there are no embers to ignite the shell.  If it is not smoking then we disconnect the wire to the igniter and twist the leads together to short it out and prevent static electricity from setting it off.  Then it's just a matter of pulling the shell out of the gun and storing it away.

Ahhh!  A great show.  Thanks for posting the videos.  The set up and post show check was very interesting, too.




There was a show in town, but I didn't go in.  It's been freaking cold here and I had to start feeding early the next day, too, and it would have required some, um, antifreeze to make me be outside.  I really enjoy fireworks.
