Students who didn’t not want to participate would be allowed to leave the classroom.Most of the legislation’s sponsors are Democrats. It was introduced by Reps. Is there a good way for progressives to engage the African American community?As I pointed out in an earlier post, the majority of S.C. Democratic reps supporting this clearly unconstitutional action are A.A. And while it is nothing close to universal, it seems African Americans in general are closely tied to religion. More than any other group, in my experience.In your opinion, is there a way that does not come off as elitist or a perpetuation of racism which allows progressives to attack the homophobic and misogynistic church teachings without coming off as an attack on the people being victimized by the church? Or is the best bet to sit back, minimize saying and doing things which drive a wedge between white progressives and African Americans, and quietly support the people who are seeking a positive change from within the community?
