The disillusioned generation. A rant.

Last edited Mon Dec 30, 2013, 09:37 AM - Edit history (3)

Ok so I need to preface this with saying this is a rant. I've been feeling particular low recently and have been thinking about some of this for a while. There is nothing new below, and it's rather darker seeming than perhaps it should, that's just cause it mirrors my own mood.

I'm 31. I belong to what I'm going to call the generation of the disillusioned. I'm using generation rather loosely here as the concept probably covers my generation and the one before it. I spoke of this in a PM to another DUer here but thought like posting a rant about it anyway.

Historically I'm sure you could trace the problem, like so much else, back to the great wars of the previous century. WW II ending with the amazing thrust of the 50s and 60s that saw the rise of the baby boomer generation. A generation that came along just in time to take full advantage of the new post war world. A world full of technological advances, rapid globalization and seemingly unbounded promise for the future. Certainly people lived in fear of "the mighty atom" but so to would this generation be the first where every family had a house, a car or two in the garage, new kitchen applicants for mom and new toys for little Johnny under the tree year after year. Incomes were on the rise, jobs plentiful, the future bright.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10024249602#post37

This is basically a vodka induced manifesto on what a **** up he is; the transference is textbook in how he attributes his own pathetic life to cover his entire generation and absolve him of any responsibility, but what's key is how many of the losers at the DUmp agree with him in the thread.

Goes back to what we've all been saying about these type of people for years...If you think your helpless, you are.  Its your responsibility to envision your life and your future and then to create it.

LocoNuts, like rest of the DUmp, keeps waiting for someone to bring him happiness on a silver platter and as if that wasn't enough--set the table for him as well.

The Locust and I are very close in age, and thus of the same generation.

I can agree with some of what he says - I do think that my generation has significant challenges, we're following on from years of socialism with all too little by way of recovery under the twin greats of Pres. Reagan and Lady Thatcher. We're still crushed by heavy taxation to provide enormous cash hand-outs to those who decline to work and see the government as an enormous sugar-daddy.

I don't think that this is quite what the Locust means, however.

I am also somewhat different to the Locust in other ways, having had a short successful career after university I am now in preparation for undertaking another. I went through university without having to drop out fifteen times each term, I realised that I would get out what I put in...it's still my attitude, and thus I don't get heart palpitations every time that I'm away from Mummy's apron-strings for more than ten minutes.

In defence of LocoNuts

Quote
I've been feeling particular low recently and have been thinking about some of this for a while.

At least its thinking.

So, we should all be reassured that a 31 year old grub, that just happens to still live in its mommies basement, blames its entire generation for its failure.

We should not regard its failure to complete the collage courses it has attempted...and failed...as its own failure. What we need to do is drag down an entire generation of kids into its mommies basement so that it can continue to take a breath.

Quote
Historically I'm sure you could trace the problem

Yes, I suppose we can, historically you are a failure, a dud round. You have had numerous opportunities, not by your own making mind you, to attend collage and what do you do?

Fall by the wayside and go home to mommy.

But fear not ! It's not your problem, oh no, it's a generational problem.

It has nothing to do with you being a dysfunctional sack of water, it was forced upon you by the world. Other folkes are getting rich, married, having children but you....you sit on a computer in your mothers basement play games and bitch on the DUmp.

Here's an idea!

And you will need to do it most riki tik...you're 31 and not getting any younger. Take some of that (maybe) unwasted collage money and seek counseling, learn how to weld without burning down your neighborhood, make a little money and get the heck out of your moms basement.

Or you could just continue to sit in your moms basement, play games, bitch on DU, continue to be a complete failure while also continuing to make your parents proud and then die.

Whateves....I care not.

There's a whole lot more to that OP.

If LocoNuts would have waited until tomorrow to post that instead of yesterday, it would be eligible for a 2014 entry in his quest for the DOTY.

You'd be despondent too if you had trained hard for 31 years and then failed to win the Olympic Gold Medal for Crazy/Stupid.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Now the message had gone from "be what you want to be" to "you better have a ****ing plan!".

It's still be what you want to be, and it's always been you better have a plan. That hasn't changed. Well, not if you actually want to make the effort to be something other than a slug.

Oh, you're viewed as needing to be locked away alright.

Look dingbat, you couldn't even stay in college for a month. This rant of yours is nothing but hot air from a perpetual quitter to a board full of individuals who want the gov't to cater to their every need so they can sit around and do nothing all day. It's no wonder it was well received.

This pathetic DUnce needs to go out and get a job and get laid, but instead he resides in his mommy's cellar writing his manofesterwoes, suckering in his like minded dupes that egg him on his spiraling journey to taxpayer dependency.
He will most likely never become a contributing member of society.

I'm sorry, LocoNuts, but yes, you are a crazy person who should definitely be locked away.

Locust is proof that even when the government provides a more than generous social net, DUmmies still won't think it is good enough.  He lives in Canada, which US Dummies claim is a much more advanced and civilized nation than our own thanks to more expansive social programs and universal health care, and this Dummy is still struggling.

I'm younger than Locust and I've completed two bachelors programs in two vastly different fields (a BA and a BS).  I held a good job for 5 years after I got the first degree, then decided that I wanted more out of life and went back to school, got a 2nd degree and found an even better job within a week of graduation.  Hard work goes a long way in becoming successful.  On facebook I can see where my high school and college friends have ended up, and the results are across the board from unemployed, to employed at minimum wage jobs, to employed at good jobs, to finishing graduate programs.  There is no "lost generation," but there are a large number of young people who spent their lives hearing how special they are who are upset now that success isn't falling into their lap.

Why is it that whenever a lunatic like LocoNuts, or Dennis the Menace, or UGP posts a whiny rant it goes on, and on, and on, and on?

They make the same senseless whine over and over a dozen times.

In LocoNuts's case, he's a drunken whackjob, so maybe that explains it partly, but I don't think that's the case with Dennis and UGP.

Yeah, but.

UGP hadn't figured out paragraphs. Whereas the LocoNuts primitive has at least that skill.

But, then again, UGP has been locked away in a padded room facility in the Baltimore area while the CooCoo for Loconuts still wanders around his parents' basement in the frozen, great white North.
