Well, she does have a point about the industry generally, I knew some folks from college years who did the same thing, a couple of different groups of them actually. Particularly in the gaming world before graphics-and-processor/RAM-intensive broadband-dependent internet gaming sucked the grassroots creativity out of it, the self-publishing thing was pretty much the norm, and some very successful enterprises (Some tiny few of which made the transition to true big-time) were built on it.
Of course, in Nads' case, I'm sure the content was just as horrible as her internet ravings are now, especially when you consider how much worse her English probably was back then, so you're no doubt right about that part.
