Best American Band
« on: December 28, 2013, 02:20:12 PM »
I think we (and myself especially) need a distraction from all this political crap.

Thought to ask a few acquaintances yesterday after hearing Mark Belling (who subbed for Rush) mention it.

So, who is the best "American" band?

Aerosmith, Eagles, CCR, Pearl Jam, Springsteen/E-Street....just a starter list...

The Band. Maybe a few were Canadian? Levon was an American treasure!
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

Sparky's got some good ones--The Doors, for example.  Ralphie, I agree with your list--and my tendency is towards the last one on your little list, even though I cannot stand Springsteen's politics (revulsion better describes my feeling towards his politics).

The Eagles for crying, Tom Petty for driving, ZZ Top for partying.

Watching SOA has gotten me familiar with newer bands.  I'm liking White Buffalo quite a bit.

Okay, I can go with Avenged Sevenfold, and I really wasn't sure where to put Queens of the Stone Age, who I REALLY like, but do they qualify as "best of" band?

3 Doors Down, while rather commercialized, is still a very talented and successful group and might warrant a mention here as well.
