My dear brother, 55 years old, professional drummer, made an announcement this weekend...
He's been a drummer all his life- actively on the roster of up to 5 bands at a time to keep steady gigs, getting paid from $50 to 100/night 3 to 5 nights a week (and 5 nights is a good if rare week). Never had health insurance except when he worked in restaurants and that was decades ago... fortunately he keeps himself in excellent shape as he couldn't keep up his job if he slacked off.
We were gathered at our sisters house for Christmas when he spoke up: "I went on the healthcare.gov website last week and after about 30 minutes filling things out- I HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE... and because of my meager drummers income- IT'S FREE!!!! And better still- I've decided to dish out $25/month for dental!!!"
It was high fives all around and a great sigh of relief for all 4 of his sibs! Our baby brother has healthcare/dental starting January!!!!
So let me see... the loser is a "professional drummer", 55, and makes only $150.00 min to $500.00 max a week. And this loser is excited about getting "free" insurance. That someone else is paying for so he can bang on the drum all day/nite? I know some musicians that are drummers. One is an eye doctor and another owns a telecommunication company. They still have to time to bang on the drums all nite and still earn a living. And this loser is sucking money from some middle class family so he can bang on the drums?
Pisses me off.
Anyway... on to the comments:

12. Congratulations to all those who got health insurance for the first time and those
who saved a bunch of money. I can't understand all the bad press Obama is receiving for this fabulous opportunity for a chance to receive HI even though they had preexisting conditions. No wonder the Rethugs want to destroy it and Obama.
For everyone that saved money, a bunch of people had to lose. Those people are boiling mad right now. I did like the play on words though in the DU name. Really liked it. Really, really, liked it. Really, really, really liked it. Why? I thought it was really clever when I... well when I saw it.

congrats
Really Nads? We fear it? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Yes the GOP fears it so much that will be the central argument in the next election. The dems like it so much that they are all saying they voted for it!!!
Yep Nads. That is the ticket!!!! Shout it far and wide.

15. Good for him!
I am happy that he can still chase his dreams and not worry about any health emergency wiping him out.
Of course a friend of mine who is a musician said "the definition of a successful musician is a person who has a partner with two good jobs, one that has insurance".
Look dummie... he chased his dreams for 35 years and still can't make it. He chased his dreams and didn't give a damn about having insurance for 35 years. Wait until he hits 65 and needs to retire. He will be on welfare. Paid for by someone else. Like me. I hope the fool ends up putting a drumstick thru his brain.
That is it for now. Sure to grow larger.
