Liberal thinking is a two-legged stool and magical thinking is one of the legs, the other is a combination of self-loating and misanthropy.  To understand it, you would have to be able to sit on that stool while juggling two elephants, an anvil and a fragmentation grenade, sans pin.

I think A&E's original intent was to produce a show where viewers could point and laugh at the silly rednecks, much the same way people pointed and laughed at people on Jersey Shore.

However, it seems they created a ratings juggernaut that they cannot contain. -Now they need to take a back seat and let the show live or die on its own merits.

Duck Dynasty: The Show That Got Away

by Pat Archbold  Thursday, December 19, 2013 11:58 AM

After A&E fired Phil Robertson for saying what every good Christian should believe, social media has been abuzz.  One of the recurring themes has been puzzlement about why A&E would cut off its nose to spite its face.  Duck Dynasty is the franchise right now. Why would they risk destroying their own cash cow?

To understand the why, we have to go back to the beginning.  Duck Dynasty is not the show that they wanted, it is the show that got away from them.

It seems what the producers intended and what A&E envisioned with the show is much different than the show that they ended up with, but they didn't do anything about it because it was so wildly popular and so wildly profitable.  But even with all the money, they have never really been comfortable with what happened.

This is what happened.  The whole idea of the show was to parade these nouveau riche Christian hillbillies around so that we could laugh at them. "Look at them," we were supposed to say.  "Look how backward they are!  Look what they believe!  Can you believe they really live this way and believe this stuff?  See how they don't fit in? HAHAHA"

It can be fun to watch.
Like all "reality" shows, it's scripted.
There are times when they go off script and be themselves. That's when it's fun.
Phil and Uncle Si, tend to do that.

Yep Skul. Got into an argument a year or two ago with someone on this site, can't remember who now, about the BuckWild show being scripted. He or she said it wasn't, I said it was. It was filmed around these parts and it hit the local paper when they went to a local bar and started fighting. Well the owner threw them all out. The filming crew told him there was no fight, it was part of the script. The owner said he didn't give a damn, nobody was gonna act like that in his place and then threw the film crew out. The film crew took exception to it, started waving the contract in his face so he called the cops and had them arrested for trespassing.

All reality shows are scripted except for maybe Beyond Scared Straight, Jail, Lockup and Cops... and I ain't too sure about Cops anymore.

Some of them are pretty fun to watch though.  Beats watching what passes for entertainment on the alphabet channels most times.  :cheersmate: :cheersmate:

"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

I got curious and paddled over to see how things were going.
Now, I remember when the whole thing started and there were at least ten or more threads beating up on DD and Phil.
Other than txnumberObumble, there isn't a peep about it until you hit page three.
There were two, and they're just left overs from days ago.
Very strange.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

I hope to god this is a mole...  If not then the propaganda and brain washing has been successful and we are doomed.   I have never ever in my life seen a child adopted into a christian family treated like a servant.  Rather I have seen them given lives they would have never dreamed of.  In the Church I grew up in a couple that couldn't have kids adopted twin boys from the Philippians and they have grown into the nicest young men I have ever meet.  What a ridiculous ignorant statement.

+1.  I have had the privilege to make acquaintances with multiple foster/adoptive parents due to a friend who does both.  None of them would do such a thing.  Oh, I'm sure you'll say "Well, it's just the ones you know."  Right.  It takes a special breed of person and a special kind of love to take on someone else's child and raise them as your own.

You DUmmies, as usual, know not of what you speak.
