Sidney Hill Foundation Invites Nominations for 2014 Hillman Prize
December 27, 2013
Deadline: January 31, 2014

Since 1950, the Sidney Hillman Foundation has honored journalists, writers, and public figures who pursue investigative journalism and public policy for the common good.

The foundation is accepting nominations for the 2014 Hillman Prizes, an annual program that honors investigative journalism and commentary in the public interest. Winners exemplify sound news judgment, resourcefulness and courage in reporting, skilled storytelling, and social impact.

The 2014 prizes will be awarded for work produced, published, broadcast, or exhibited in 2013. Categories include books (nonfiction); newspaper reporting (print or online); magazine reporting (print or online); broadcast journalism (video or radio programs longer than twenty minutes, and documentary film); Web journalism (online multimedia reporting by an individual or an institution; should have a substantial visual component as well as text); and opinion journalism (commentary and analysis in any medium).

Winners will be announced April 2014. Each winner will receive $5,000 prize a certificate designed by New Yorker cartoonist, Edward Sorel, at the foundation's awards ceremony and cocktail reception on May 6, 2014, in New York City. Travel expenses will be provided.

The contest is open to journalists and subjects worldwide, although work must have been published in the United States.

Visit the Hillman Foundation Web site for complete program guidelines, nomination instructions, and information about previous Hillman Prize winners.

If 'Dinner For Schmucks' was real, I'd nominate her for that.

nadin's outlet as an unpaid journo and photog is Crazy Miriam Raftery's free online blog, East County Magazine.

Crazy Miriam has a hardon for windfarms, which is somewhat understandable since they're ugly, obtrusive, expensive, useless, and a gross example of wasted tax money. Of course you could also apply that description to nadin and Crazy Miriam.

Anyway, to support her boss, the nutcase has claimed windmill blades break and are thrown a mile, and the generators are prone to explosion.

Recently one did overheat and catch fire, so nadin immediately waddled out onto the front lines with The Good Rig to take photos for publication and for the education of future generations.

Windmills are deadly.

Here is the best shot of the hundreds she took on this expedition. Photojournalism at its best:

There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

I Hope that's an on-line type of application.
Sending a physical example might prove embarrassing.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Killer Turbine was exceptional.
It still can't beat the canned milk.  :lmao:

Agreed.
She reached a new level when she and the retired sub captain exchanged knowing glances as they stockpiled canned milk.
