Anyone in the market for some wings-- a lot of them?

The Wall Street Journal reports that McDonald's is trying to offload 10 million pounds of Mighty Wings, fast.

Why?  Seems the wings were pretty much a flop with consumers and not the amazing food innovation the fast food company had hoped.

The product itself isn't bad, but McDonald's wants nearly a dollar a piece for their wings.  When you're charging 50-100% more than your competition, you have a problem. 

I'll take a few pounds if you're selling them cheap.

I was in the chicken industry for over 10 years. One of the phrases that I learned that stuck with me the most was...
If you don't sell it, you're going to smell it.
My guess would be that would apply somewhat equally to all perishable products.

It was a good product.  It was just overpriced.

The wings themselves only came in one flavor... spicy.  That might have turned some people off.

Yeah, those wings cost a buck a pop.  And there are enough places in even my Podunk little town that have 25-50 cent wing nights (and they're much better, btw) that McD's deserves to take a bath on this one.

I don't think that these were even on the local menu.  You see, chicken wings here are sacrosanct.  You must not screw with the wings, and must only use Frank's hot sauce.  To do anything strange is blasphemy.

It was a dry wing with a spicy breading.  I think they went overboard with the cayenne pepper.

Save your money, go to Hooters.

To go a shade off topic, I loved that Frank's commercial where the old lady says "I put that s*** on everything," and then everyone is properly scandalized. :lmao:

I wish they still had it on air.

And I too, could use some Mighty wings. Save me making dinner for a while.
