Battle Of The ****ing Bulge.

I’m almost finished with Atkinson’s brilliant third volume of WWII history. We’re in the Battle Of The Bulge; McAuliffe has just said ‘Nuts’ to Hasso Von Manteuffel from Bastogne, Patton is about to make the Wheel, and Montgomery is hopping up and down like a manic rabbit demanding more power. Young Americans are dying all throughout the Ardennes. Scared, overrun, holding here, fleeing there, massacred here, revenging there. That Sherman that made the Raggedy 106th cheer? It was being driven by the SS. ****ers. Mother****ing SS. They opened fire on those Lost Boys in the woods, and all hope fled. And you know what those boys were doing there in that ****ing dark snowy wood?

Saving our ****ing asses from Dick Cheney, the Prequel, that’s what. I love those ****ing Lost Boys out there behind St. Vith. I’m rooting for them. They lose everytime, and they all die, but I root for them anyway, because of all fights, that was the ****ing Excellent Fight. ****ing Sepp Dietrich’s got Tiger Tanks, and he’s shoving them right down your throat, and you got nothing but a ****ing M-1 Garand, but you ****ing hold your ground because **** THE NAZIS, and that’s how the world is saved, holding back the 6th Panzers for just one more ****ing hour, so that George Mother****ing Lunatic Genius Patton can wheel six divisions around and kick their ass all the way back to Deutschland.

I agree about it being a tool, and having a proper use.  I save my expletives for the occasion when nothing else will get the point across as quickly or effectively.  28 years in the Navy and several working as a correctional officer in the state prison system fleshed out my vocabulary nicely, but I use the profanity sparingly.

The DU OP lost some of the impact by overuse of asterisks.

What an incredible douchebag.  It sounds like he accidentally got some of the history right, though, which I attribute to random chance and possibly good writing though I haven't read the particular book he mentions, having read enough WW2 history to last me the rest of my life long ago and briefed on the Bulge in particular in a military staff school.  The post sounds like a completely ineffectual Walter Mitty type having a profanity-laced herogasm after putting himself vicariously in to a Valiant Last Stand (Which St. Vith was, and the time bought there was actually more important to the outcome of the Bulge than Bastogne was, much as it pains me to say that as a 101st vet).  His further transposition of that into an anticorporatist/BFEE-hate rant is simply deranged.
