Are (Ca.) state taxes covered under statute of limitations or bankruptcy??

Because I have not lived in Ca. since 2001 & I last worked there late 2000. I have had the state sending me a notice that I owed back taxes-which I ignored because the statute of limitations was way past & I had filed a Bankruptcy in 2007.

I just received a notice that a garnishment had been attempted. Because my income is from SSDI it was protected from garnishment.

So I got very lucky & dodged a bullet. But is this even legal?.

I plan to call Monday & need to educate myself on the law. Any help would be very appreciated!

Dummy asking DUmmies, for tax advice. What could go wrong?  :lmao:
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

If one of you is boxerfan, well played!

When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

CA doesn't screw around when it comes to their extor...er taxes.  I was part of a class action years back that kept them from taxing out of state retired military who had been stationed in CA during their time on active duty.

Come on boxerfan. Do your patriotic duty and pay your taxes. Barbara boxer is counting on it to fund her boondoggles.

When Bush went into Iraq, DUmmies and other primitives wordwide called those who supported the action without enlisting 'Chickenhawks' - there needs to be a term for those who support Democratic policies, yet do their best to avoid having to pay for them.

When one looks at DU, one gets the impression that the proper term for those people is 'progressive'.

Oh for the love of what ever you believe in, who does not try to avoid the Tax Man?

If you walk to work they tax your feet.

We pay double taxes on anything with a federal or state tax stamp on it.   First we pay a tax when we buy gas, heating oil and some form of natural gas. Second tax comes when we file are federal taxes, no mention we already paid a tax on the items.

Early 70's I remember we could with bags of receipts deduct our paid federal and state tax on all ready paid tax on items, even gave a break to us who paid taxes on credit cards, homes and autos.

Yes we do get to deduct the interest on our homes BUT, if you pay off the home early, that is gone.

Join the military in your home state that has a state tax.   Ouch, if you never go back to that state you are still billed as a resident.

This battle has been going on long before Jesus as when he was asked if the people should pay taxes.   Answer, give to Cesar what is his and to the Lord what is his.

We became a country because of taxes on of all thing TEA.  No taxation without representation.

My town taxes us over $1000 extra a year for no reason but we are a Donner town to the poor town districts some where else in the state.    Problem is we have no idea where our money goes and even if it ever gets there.    A scam like the reason Lotto was brought in for the benefit of the Schools.     If the schools are being benefited by Lotto, why are we low middle class having to pitch in with another $1000 a year ?

As my son told me, no one owns land in America, we just rent it from the government.  Same as our possessions and bank accounts that can be frozen, paychecks frozen for a debt, be it child support or Sears.    Ultra Conservative this boy------Wonder when he will move to an unincorporated town way up in Maine ???

Yes, but it is the height of hypocrisy for a "progressive" to complain about taxes on one hand, then fight for more government programs on the other.

CR is exactly right Vesta. The left complains that anyone who supports the military should show that support by enlisting themselves, whereas the left supports unlimited government expansion via social programs, yet the very same leftists want no part of footing the bill - and that applies from wealthy leftists such as Warren Buffett all the way down to the garden variety moonbat.

For whatever reason, the higher taxation requirement line is always a notch or two above the person complaining. Its funny the way that always seems to happen.

-- I forgot to add --

Vesta, Do you want to make an 'income inequality' based progressive really angry ?

Its easy -

1 ) Engage them in a discussion of the 'global economy' - which they all love and want to be a part of...

2 ) Then make it clear that as far as living in a global economy is concerned, simply living in America is enough to make one a member of the hated 1%.

3)  And boom goes the cranium.

I thought taxes were exempt from any bankruptcy or reorganization.

How many DUmmies are on the SSI dole anyway?
