Poll: Californians gradually souring on unions

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California has long been a union stronghold, but voters in the reliably Democratic state are gradually taking a more negative view of organized labor, a poll released Friday suggested.

The independent Field Poll said that by a narrow margin, more voters said unions do more harm than good, as opposed to those who see organized labor as generally beneficial.

The figures represent a turnaround from a 2011 Field survey, when more voters said unions resulted in more good than harm.

The shift comes at a time of ongoing labor conflicts in the state and nation, often involving government employee pensions and retirement benefits. It also tracks a long-running national trend, in which support for labor unions has gradually slipped.

I think it's because of:
- 30 years of post-union Reaganomics
- NAFTA outsourcing former union manufacturing jobs to third world, non union nations
- Younger people being "socially liberal, economically conservative"
- And the negative headlines about the BART unions

  • Creepy ass cracker.
I think they are seeing too much of their pay checks going to unions and to taxes.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

DUmmies, we see it, every day. The stranglehold Unions have on this state. Pension plans, wages, out-of-control spending. ALL of it on the taxpayers dime, forced on us by a small percentage of the work force.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

It must be that stranglehold the RW has on everything in California.

1. Concerning.

I would have hoped that by now, the pendulum of public opinion were swinging back in favor of unions.
What will it take for Dems to realize we must break conservatives' chokehold on traditional media?

We must take back NBC from Limbaugh...wait...

Wasn't the public unions Moonbeam's idea when he was in office the first time?  Now he is battling with the horrific unfunded debt in public pensions.

Here is you problem DUmbasses...you want people to hate those that have made themselves wealthy in the private sector but most are detached from that.
They simply don`t care because they are free to purchase the product or to not.

When you have public unions extorting at the point of the tax sword a far better living then those forced to finance them you have an issue you can`t win.

Just look at how many times they vote themselves 7%+ raises ON TOP of the "automatic" (no negotiation required) raises tied to the minimum wage. Teachers Unions are some of the worst offenders.

Hell, just look at BART, Bay Area Rapid Transit:

It's insane.

  • All in all, not bad, not bad at all

There's no extortion involved when public unions negotiate contracts with big blue cities.

Union thugs sit on both sides of the table.

We must take back NBC from Limbaugh...wait...

On a, somewhat, related note, another LIbEral talker going dark in New York.

Can't find link (lazy).  Saw it at FR.

EDIT:

OK, found it.  Switching to Spanish language music format.  There's a Karma moment in the somewhere, I think.

Liberal thinking is a two-legged stool and magical thinking is one of the legs, the other is a combination of self-loating and misanthropy.  To understand it, you would have to be able to sit on that stool while juggling two elephants, an anvil and a fragmentation grenade, sans pin.
