My friend was fired today. Because he is gay.

My friend is a professor at a Catholic preparatory school, of which he is also an alumnus. He has been with his partner for 12 years and, while they had a committment ceremony, they were never able to officially marry due to the fact it wasn't legal. Well, New Jersey finally made it legal. He just got his marriage license. Upon learning of this, the school fired him.

I am so mad for him. He is extremely well liked. He loved that school. He loved that school before I even went there. I attended grade school with him and he used to talk about the Prep school often and how he loved it and hoped to attend. He's a brilliant mind, his students loved him, and he had great pride in that school. It's so hurtful that he was good enough for him all these years until today, when the only thing that changed was that he is married to another man.

And it sucks because he can't do anything about it because it's a private, Catholic institution...right?

Edited to add: He lives in NJ and is getting married there, but he teaches in Pennsylvania. As far as I know, the laws in this state don't do much to protect LGBTQ folks and our Governor Gashole is in no rush to do anything positive.

So, you don't like it when psycho priests molest boys, but you DO want man-lovers TEACHING Catholics.

I don't understand why any self-respecting lover of the LGBTAEIOU lifestyle would want one of them working for the enemy.

Isn't this pretty much the same thing as a liberal union-lover getting canned from the WalMart front office? Shouldn't the DUmmies be telling this moron that the teacher is better off now that he doesn't have to work for an institution that HATES him?

Oh well...can never figure the DUmmy mindset.

He likely signed a morality clause. Usually that states the behavior expected so it's not a public institution--it'sprivate ie people send their kids there for a reason and like it or not some people do not agree in normalcy of homosexuality.

One of my brothers attended this school back in day.  There was definitely quite a few flamboyant faculty members back then as well.  However, the school isn't going to make an issue of it unless the teacher openly endorses the lifestyle to the students.  Obviously, the teacher couldn't bring his boyfriend to prom.  Likewise, if a teacher was ever stupid enough to actually get "married" then he is going to get fired.

All Catholic school teachers sign a morality clause.  You can get fired for having a baby out of wedlock and you can get fired for pretending your sexual deviancy is a "marriage."

Dummies have no concept of "freedom of contract."  This teacher signed a contract which included provisions about morality.  The teacher now claims that he doesn't remember such a provision.  

I've ventured on a couple of the Philly.com articles about the story, and apparently many of his students are in full support of his lifestyle.

I also don't see why the gay liberal isn't getting a TWP from the DUmmy cops: Teaching Without Public. Aren't private schools evil? Don't they siphon funds from public schools?

Why can't this teacher go work in a REAL (ie, public) school, contribute to the teacher's union, and be a good German? That way, he can practically bugger his lover in front of the
kids and not get fired.

Yup.  If one of the single teachers at my daughter's private, unaffiliated Catholic school got pregnant, she'd get canned in an instant.  (The three married teachers, however, would get a pass, as they should.)
