That's my hometown. I love Detroit. But decades of flight to the suburbs, the big three's near total abandonment of the area, and decades of corruption have left Detroit an empty hull of a city.

The city of my youth, with nearly 2,000,000 residents, now has about 600,000. There are tens of thousands of empty abandoned houses, the infrastructure has crumbled, the city services which reliably served nearly two million in my youth cannot keep up with the much less than half that remain.

And the bankruptcy people want to sell the city's treasures to pay the corporations.

I cry for my home town.

A Rethuglican congress critter made the suggestion to not tax the workers or companies in Detroit so that they would all have more money to reinvest in the city.

That might actually work and attract more businesses and jobs to go there and rebuild it.
