Job interviews
« on: November 25, 2013, 06:34:22 PM »
What was your longest interview?  What was your shortest?

My longest lasted about 4 hours.  I was interviewed by 3 different senior engineers with a follow up phone interview with the hiring manager that lasted about 10 minutes.

My shortest interview was about 5 minutes.  The hiring manager asked me a single question.  After my answer he inquired, how soon can you start.

3 1/2 hours with 3 different groups. Each group getting more detailed that the one before.

Never had any long interviews, but I did have one where the guy doing the interview took me outside and had a cigarette.
I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

Shortest: zero minutes.

My first "interview" was over beers with the guy that was building the then-new practice.  I was interviewing him.

Later, I was "hired" by the company that "took over" my prior company and had to submit my resume.  That was it since I already had a good reputation with partners who were absorbed already.

Longest: 6 separate interviews of 3 people each and then a committee interview of about an hour.

Other than that 25 years ago, I haven't had to interview.

I've had several interviews that went all day. I wasn't being grilled the whole 8 hours, but I have started at 8 or before, and left after normal working hours. I almost always got lunch breaks though.
At least it wasn't a full business day !
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

I've been hired strictly off my resume with no interview at all before, which kind of surprised me - pleasantly - since it was a pretty high-level job; generally interviews in my field ran about 20-30 minutes, though, and I've done that too.

The interview for my current job was about 2 minutes of actual interview and 30 minutes of swapping sea stories. My interviewer was a retired Coast Guardsman...

Longest was about 45 minutes.

Shortest I was asked if I wanted a job, said yes and was hired...lol The longest I was saved from by my soon to be boss. The owner of the machine shop was known for LONG interviews. After almost three hours my soon to be boss said he would take over and sent me home. He called me a few min after I got home and told me I had the job. One of the machinist that got hired there after me had a 10 hour interview.

I went into apply to work in the warehouse but during the course of touring the shop, the boss decided to hire me to work in the repair shop. That was almost 25 years ago and I never filled out an application just the paperwork for being hired.

Now they do background checks and require a drug screen before hiring is finalized.

Shortest and best interview consisted of the question, "Do you have a sense of humor?"  I worked for them 2 years and we're still friends 15-16 years later.

Longest was one that they had me follow people around allll day.  My eyes were glazing over interspersed with rolling back in my head.  I got an offer and took the job, but it was only a 3 month temporary one, to cover for someone out on maternity leave.

My longest job interview was a couple of hours for a school district in Northern California. My shortest was the job I have now. I called to say I had returned to the area and my boss said come to work Monday.
