Quote
Some drivers along a busy Fort Worth street on Friday were stopped at police roadblock and directed into a parking lot, where they were asked by federal contractors for samples of their breath, saliva and even blood.

It was part of a government research study aimed at determining the number of drunken or drug-impaired drivers.

"It just doesn't seem right that you can be forced off the road when you're not doing anything wrong," said Kim Cope, who said she was on her lunch break when she was forced to pull over at the roadblock on Beach Street in North Fort Worth.

Couldn't they look at records of people arrested for driving while intoxicated? Why are contractors doing this?

I think people who kill while driving drunk should never see a day of freedom.

I watched the video at the link and found this surveying of drivers over 3 years in 30 cities outrageous.  They say it's "voluntary", but they forced the woman in the vid off the road.  The form given states they do preliminary breath tests while answering questions prior to consenting to a formal breathalyzer.  I had no idea they now have ways to check for alcohol passively.  Will mouthwash set it off, I wonder?

This country has gone mad imo.

My question is what are they doing when people test positive for impairment? Since it is a "study" are they just letting them go? Because there are police involved are they arresting people who volunteered?

"Am I under arrest?"

"Do you have probable cause for detaining me?"

"Am I free to go?"

"In accordance with the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, I decline to participate."

Repeat as necessary.  Record at least audio and if possible, video throughout the encounter.
