I despise high deductible health insurance plans

They are a deterrent built into the plan to make people ration their own healthcare.

I hate health insurance companies.

Then don't get one. Sign up for the free health care plans on the exchanges that cover everything for free.  :-)

8. They haven't really increased access to healthcare if they make it to expensive to use.

This is a huge problem. So people pay a high premium, and still can't access healthcare because they can't afford more than the premium.

It will start to piss people off.

I see more corporations moving toward this model as well. Using the ACA as the gold standard of health insurance.

I'm not saying I hate the ACA, but there are some serious problems, that I wish would be addressed.

I informed you thusly.

24. It was part of the Devil's Bargain Obama made with the insurance companies

to keep Harry & Louise off his ass when he was trying to get some kind of a plan through.

The insurance cos. well understand the effectiveness of high deductibles as barriers to the use of benefits. The ultimate cynicism manifests in the fact that the highest deductibles and copays are targeted precisely at those who are least able to afford them.

There, Dammit. I said it.

27. The question that comes to mind

Last edited Sat Nov 16, 2013, 01:13 PM - Edit history (1)

is how is this better than the shit policies they were allowed to offer prior.

Before, High deductible, but lower premium. Now, high deductible, higher premium (if you don't qualify for subsidies).

There are some good things, like caps, 26 stay on your parents insurance, pre existing conditions. But as far as truly increasing access to healthcare for everyone, I don't see it.

The only solution as I see it, is a single payer system.

You hit the nail right on the head and do not even realize it. The whole point of this exercise is to push public opinion to taxpayer funded health care for all. or single payer as the left calls it.

15. One of the things I shake my head at

is people who are AMAZED at how low their PREMIUM is (with a subsidy - which they don't get until they do their taxes, and then, it's only a tax credit) otherwise, without the subsidy, they wouldn't be able to afford it.

My head shaking comes in when these same people don't realize, haven't looked, or simply don't care, that that low premium comes with a $6350 deductible. If they can't afford the premium, they're sh*t out of luck when they go in for care and are told, "How do you plan to pay your deductible BEFORE we treat?".

The shock, for many, will come when they actually go in for care.

I had to double check and make sure I was at DU when I read all these posts making the same complaints about 0bmacare that we were making well before it was implemented. Once again the smartest people in the world are 4 years behind.

Its all about self rationing. Why these things are legal blows my mind

The nerve of being expected to actually contribute to your own health care, my God man we need that money for weed, and new iphones.

You know what DUmmies, I hope you suffer greatly under this, we warned you, we did our best to stop this, and all you did was scream racist at us.

I don't want free healthcare for everybody, somebody has to pay for it.  I just want free healthcare for me and everybody that makes less than me.  DU mode off.

Idiots.  Catastrophic plans and HSAs go hand in hand, but you wouldn't know about that because you expect everything and expect someone else to foot the bill.

If car insurance were run the same way as medical insurance, your auto premiums would be just as high and only the rich could afford to drive.  Where's the upside to any of that?

No, they don't.

Health insurance companies make profits off of HEALTHY people who pay premiums, but never get sick enough to realize any benefits. Sick people are what cost insurers money.

The people who make 'profits off of sick people' and people 'trying to take care of their health' are doctors. Because its what they get paid to do. DUmbass.

64. I'm in a situation where I need screening I can't afford right now

It scares the shit out of me. My job ended a few months ago and I couldn't afford the rediculously high COBRA payments so I got a short term policy. The deductible isn't even that bad but right now I can't really afford anything extra - like blood tests and so forth. It pisses me off - whose stupid idea was it to tie health care directly to employment?

87. Interesting. Do you know what folks did before that?

Paid cash? Doctors were cheaper?
There is no need to worry your DUmb little head over anything that happened before January 20, 2009 when Barry was inaugurated.  Nothing that happened before that matters.

Let me know if this is true. A friend of mine has to go with her company insurance instead of going with her husband so much cheaper better insurance. She said it was because of Obamacare but I always thought that that was and how it went in private business.

Don't give them any ideas. Can you imagine what it would be like if State Farm had to pay for oil changes and tire rotations? Basically that is what has happened to health insurance. I bet if the government didn't add so many regulations and expenses on doctors that we could just pay $20 or $30 for a visit, instead of it being a copay and the insurance paying the other $60 or so, and insurance only paying for major problems. I bet premiums would shrink.

I think because of 0bamacare lots of employed spouses are being pushed to the insurance the company they work for offers. I can't swear its because of Obamacare though. I do know that certain companies charge extra for any employed family member that has insurance offered. They did it to discourage families from all being covered on one plan. That predates Obamacare.

There's at least one clinic here that does not accept insurance or waste resources processing any kind of paperwork other than basic record-keeping.  Blood tests are $30, checkups are $50.  Compare that to the franchise clinic Concentra that charges $150 just to see the doctor.  If you want more, their prices go up from there.

If I heard right, clinics like that are going to be fined/taxed. The first one that you mentioned.

Under ObamaCare, the IRS requires non-profit clinics and hospitals to devote a specific amount of their resources to medical care.  I don't know if that same stipulation applies to for-profit clinics as well.  I know it applies to the for-profit insurance companies but since most for-profit hospitals get paid through an insurance company or directly from the patient, I'm not sure how that works with this law.

But we have to pass it to find out what's in it.

And it changes from day to day, Obama waves his wand from time to time and changes the law of the land in order to protect his lying ass. The hypocrisy of how they say it's the law when we want something changed, but as soon as they want a change they do so on a whim.
