...and they did it in two weeks in their spare time! And it didn't cost $300 million dollars.

With a few late nights, Ning Liang, George Kalogeropoulos and Michael Wasser built "thehealthsherpa.com," a two-week-old website that solves one of the biggest problems with the government's site.

(snip)

"They got it completely backwards in terms of what people want up front," said Liang. He added: "They want prices and benefits, so that they could make the decision."

Liang showed CBS News how it worked. "You come to our website and you put in your zip code -- in this case a California zip code. You hit 'find plans,' and you immediately see the exchange plans that are available for that zip code."

They have plenty of experience working at places like Twitter and Microsoft before setting out to build their own Internet companies. But this project is a public service.

As Ning Liang showed CBS News correspondent John Blackstone how HealthSherpa worked on a computer screen, a person enters their area code and then will see the exchange plans available for that zip code.
/ CBS News

"There was no thought of, 'How do we make money this time?'" said Wasser. "It was like, 'This is a problem that we know we can solve in a really short period of time. So let's just do it.'"

(snip)

CBS News looked at the team's website Thursday and pointed out that the tax subsidy wasn't in there, which is supposed to be one of the most complicated parts of the HealthCare.gov site. But as Liang explained: "Yes, we added this last night...the subsidy calculation is fairly complicated, but it wasn't too bad."

You can't actually enroll on the HealthSherpa site, but they do provide contact information for companies offering the plans. Users who find a plan they like can go directly to the insurance companies without ever using HealthCare.gov.

(snip)

Maybe somebody should tell Obummer, and then hire these guys.......

I tried it last night, and despite the "sticker shock", the damned thing REALLY works, even for Barry County in southwest Missouri!

They will "disappear" soon...the Marxist wont like being shone up...especially by some capitalistic free market pigs like them...

Just goes to show the Govt is entirely inept to do ANYTHING...these guys did it in a few evenings.... :rotf: although it did say they used info in the govt own site...but I will be willing to bet that wouldn't have taken them long to compile either.

Still sucks. Approximately $165/mo for the cheapest plan. My income qualifies me for about 50 in subsidies.

**** that. I don't feel the need to steal from others to pay for health insurance. I'll just pay the penalty and after I get through adjusting my deductions, it'll effectively be $0. Suck it Feds.

Isn't that what Obama wanted them to hide a month before the release date?

My God. I went to this site and typed in my zip. For a Silver plan.......................................$350 MORE a month (just under $300 now would go to $650+) than what I was paying for this plan year.

"affordable" my ass.

Thank God my employer is "eating" the majority of this.

The subsidies were something else. Where are we getting all this tax payer money for these large subsidies? Based on our family income there were projected subsidies of $500 a month. Personally we will stay with the plan we have and hope it's not on the chopping block next year. Even with subsidies the premiums were still higher than we pay now, and we have no deductible and other than copays we pay nothing else. The best policy they had said 90% coverage and I'm certain a high deductible.

See how selfish you are, you would rather eat than allow others to have health insurance.

What a riot...prexisting people don't get hosed...well unless you include being lucky enough to get old as a preexisting condition--at which point one's insurance premium is double what it is for a 40 year old with ZERO subsidies...I even brought down the income at low at 10 grand for a 65 year old(I doubt many people could pay all they need to on that with no house payent, etc...still 160 a month for the cheapest gold--something arguably an older person would need because of the coverage to save from going bankrupt if they get ill or need surgery. ****ing ridiculous...I'm guessing the thinking here is that there won't be enough 65 year olds to out vote the 30 year old masses with children who are getting big subsidies.

Of course, I don't know how Medicare works...I admit that. I would guess you need a supplemental plan--is it not required? How on earth with older peeps do that with the numbers I saw at that site? I assume these would act as those required supplemental plans? Or is that not required and most older folks thenwould now be on crappy ass Medicare only and at the whim of the gov for healthcare completely?

I do that AARP will make a fortune selling supplemental insurance to Medicare.

yeah as I recall they had their little piggies all in on this too...when one wants to know who benefits the most in an advocacy situation like this that will generated lot's of mandatory(forced) cash it's helpful to employ the same techniques in fraud situations: follow the money! Most advocates in this cluserfudge are set to benefit financially from this monstrosity; I always find it humorous that the DUmmies get all up in arms when oil companies influence energy policy to their benefits financially, yet when it came to healthcare they totally abandoned the idea of looking where the money points to--well until they got a load of those premiums that is.  :lmao:

I'll add they never seem to make the same political connections as they do when another for-profit organization benefits from a piece of legislation ie Cheney and Halliburton. I see they have begun to jump on insurance companies without making the obvious connections to the closed door meetings to put together obamacare with their DEMOCRAT masters. It seems as if corporate greed happens in some isolated vacuum when democrats are involved--a rogue situation which of course some hapless, trusting dem didn't foresee. When corporate greed is involving republicans then it is full boar on the right wing 1% corporatist pig rants all day long and how this should signal the end of capitalism and republicans. Inconsistent dumbasses.

I suppose it never occurs to them that their own democrat leaders are now behaving like JR Ewing screwing over Cliff in a deal--cavalier and well that's how things roll boys. I thought they hate that attitude; guess it's ok to be a cavalier, condescending shithead as long as you are a leftist being the elitist snob.

But oil is evil!

Apparently, for profit mandated healthcare is too. Only difference is you and I can choose NOT to drive a car and reject the oil company to a large extent should we choose to; since obamacare we no longer have that choice to reject a product we might see as unaffordable or unnecessary or on the grounds that we have ideals that contradict with insurance(a gamble essentially--unless you are Muslim of course--then you may reject it based on your conscience)

Some of the DUmmies said the whole thing is a give away for insurance companies, but that was years ago, and haven't seen any of that talk now.

I've seen it, but much of it is disconnected from their own party who not only voted this in, but had closed-door sessions with those same companies constructing this piece of crap. Craziness...
