'We Are Winning': Walmart Workers' Biggest Protest Yet Shows Workers 'Won't Be Silenced'

Fifty-four Walmart workers were arrested Thursday night in what organizers are calling the biggest act of civil disobedience by Walmart employees of all time, following a year of repeated strikes against unfair wages, poor working conditions and ongoing corporate retaliation against those who are speaking out against the retail giant.

"Surrounded by about 100 police officers in riot gear and a helicopter circling above, more than 50 Walmart workers and supporters were arrested in downtown Los Angeles Thursday night," the Huffington Post reports.

About 500 Walmart workers and supporters had gathered to protest outside LA's Chinatown Walmart before sitting down in the middle of the busy street in front of the store.

The action came on the second day of a two-day strike at stores throughout the Los Angeles area, calling for better working conditions and an end to the corporation's illegal retaliation against striking workers.

Rock on, DUmmies!  The WalMart I went to the other day probably had 500 cars in the parking lot, so this really qualifies as "HUGH" news!  :whatever:  :whatever:  :whatever:

Walmart, pull out of the People's Republic of California.

About 500 Walmart workers and supporters
485 "union" agitators, 15 former employees.
Got a hunch I'm not far off on that.
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Oh if only someone else had not scooped our insipid intrepid journo gNads in her California 'beat', unless she is restricted to the local San Diego area, and windfarms.
This too shall pass.

485 "union" hired agitators, 15 former employees.
Got a hunch I'm not far off on that.

SEIU has a habit of hiring protesters for less than minimum wage to man their pickets and protests.  I don't know if they pay extra for being arrested or not.

'We Are Winning': Walmart Workers' Biggest Protest Yet Shows Workers 'Won't Be Silenced'

I'll grant them a touch of truth in that - I used to work alongside a some unionised employees, the very last thing which would occur to them is to be quiet and get on the with the job. Between moaning (occasionally justified, but mostly not at all) about 'management', moaning about fellow (non-unionised) employees, moaning about everything else which crossed their paths they had pretty much no time left to do their jobs.

What is with the bitch about Walmart for these people ?

I have never been in a Walmart in any state that was not clean, wide isles and very helpful personal.   I dislike Target in the south and up here, too disordered. K-Mart it is difficult to find anyone to help get something off a top rack.

So my Walmart funny. We took a piece of fabric to Sea's store and found the paint center unmanned.  The store sent over some middle aged man from the auto section to help us, his first time at that station.

This unfortunate man had worked 10 years in the auto section and was very nervous about what we needed him for.   I pulled out the fabric and told him we needed 2 gallons of paint in that color.   We were standing there for over an hour as he fumbled about trying to figure out what colors to mix to get that color.   Fortunately no one else came to his counter while we were there.  The clerk was sweating bullets he was down to opening those small 3-4 oz cans for testing and mixing colors on a sheet of paper.

Finally we came close to the color we needed and now he had to calculate the perportion of each color per gallon.   Bless his heart, he did his best and now had to figure out the mixing machine.  How to set the timer and turn it on.  It was only after we got the paint, he found under the counter the instructions on what percent of one color to add to another to get a match.   As we left he was ashen and sweating up a storm.

At least he now knew how to mix paint in the future.  I would love to have gotten him to the ladies department and asked for help with bras.

Yes the work at Walmart is not easy, however I assume the pay checks come on time, and as long as there is no union there is extra money in the check that would be deducted for union dues and they are not cheap.

Good honest work and at minimum wage will put bacon and bread on the table.

Exactly.

The 1000 shoppers inside Wallyworld aren't going to like their stores  messed with. This could turn out badly for the protesters.
