Sound like jugs is going to need a new computer.  :lmao:  Capacitors are more-or-less short term batteries. Voltage enters them, and then is released back out 'cleanly' - Imagine sticking a water spigot into a dam. The water will come out in a predictable, regulated stream. One of two things is going to happen to that laptop. Either the burning capacitor will burn itself disconnected, and stop the power flow altogether - or it will burn through the material inside that helps to regulate the flow of electricity, allowing 'dirty' power to flow through the laptop.

Either result is a death sentence for the laptop.

There is a slight possibility of it catching fire, but it is only slight as the plastic used is manufactured to be fire retardant.

They also block DC, act with inductors as bandpass/block filters, etc...

Meh, keep using it, jugs.  That gaseous odor won't be melting into your lap for a few hours at least.

There are worse things to drop be you sober as a judge.   

Fear of dropping a baby or young child.   Fear of dropping a baby pet, fear of dropping a $50.00 flask of fine wine. How about receiving a expensive perfume and having it fall and shatter.   

Worse story I can think of was about a large family reunion and one of the members helping get grandma down the steps in a wheel chair some how dropped her and she died . 

My worse story personally.    We were in Hawaii and decided to take the kids to a beach that had about 60 stone steps to go down to the lagoon.   Baby was 3 months old and in a stroller.   I took the 2 others down and ex was in charge of the baby.   We reached the bottom  onto the beach and watched in horror as the EX slipped and lost the carriage and it cartwheeled over and over down a good 10+ feet. 

Baby seemed fine, but you know I do wonder about the brain slaps given to a child that age. Is this the reason he grew up to become a Liberal ?

All electronic equipment is powered by "magic smoke". 

As long as the "magic smoke" stays inside the computer, all is well.

As soon as the "smoke" starts to leak out from all the vents and seams, game over, time to get a new one.

(Actually heard a sales tech in Radio Shack tell someone this one time.  When does an electronic component stop working?  When the smoke comes out of it!  And yes, the tech was talking to a blond, democrat, Obama supporter from California.)

Light bulbs don't give off photons--they absorb darkons.  That's why, for example, the ends of a fluorescent bulb are dark--cause that's where the most darkons are piling up.  And when they're "burned out", they're just full of darkons.
