Another provision of the ACA is an excise tax on health insurance plans which are considered

"cadillac plans"

The Affordable Care Act includes a tax on high-cost insurance plans that’s both a funding mechanism for the law and meant to encourage patients with a menu of generous health benefits to choose only necessary services.

I am presenting this not only for discussion, but for two additional reasons. One, I do not think many people realize this is part of the ACA, and two, would the plans that Congress have fit into this category?

Now wait a minute we are being forced to buy policies to cover things we never need, then at the same time they are trying to get people to only buy what they need? Doesn't make any sense to a knuckle dragging freeper like me.

There should be more of it...If someone wants to try and attack the ACA over this... **** 'em, they are a tool and not worthy of discussing the issue with.

How is it fair to get them to pay so you can have health care? This whole fair share bullshit annoys the hell out of me.

Cadillac Plans = Union Health Care Plans.

When they learn that how will the republicans be blamed?
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

They'll find a way.

At what dollar point does the excise tax kick in?

Like everything else in the cACA bill, as the secretary of HHS determines would be my guess. Doesn't affect me so haven't researched it.

I read up on it a while back.  It is based on cost not "services offered".  If the employer pays more than X amount of your income for your plan, then the amount over X amount is taxed at 40%!!!!

I will have to check and see what that number is on our insurance, based on the small amount we pay in premiums my wife's employer must pay a significant amount for the 3 of us.

Small addition;  This applies to any third party paying for your insurance ie: unions.  That is why the unions are begging for exemptions.

So the employer gets the bill, not the employee?

I have heard both ways and am not certain which one is correct. Either way it is bad, if we have to pay it that is more taxes we get taken from us, if the employer does and has to pay an excise tax on hundreds or even thousands of plans that will be a significant amount and companies will start cutting jobs and not hire new people.

No matter how you slice it, this is a bad thing and it is going to hurt a hell of a lot of people.

I'm pretty sure that the employer/union gets the bill but, we know where the money is really going to come from, don't we.

I'm sure the unions will get subsidies.  :-)

I seem to recall $12,000 for family coverage and $8,000 for single. Could be wrong though.

Like your beloved Unions, jackass?  Their plans are considered very "cadillac"

I thought I read something about the Obinga Junta grandfathering the Unions.

Not sure.

In essence what they are saying is that if your plan does not meet the convenient new leftist standard you should not keep it but if your plan far exceeds that you should be taxed out of it.

Especially if they are "green energy" unions with major owebuma campaign contributors.
