And then there is the same problem with this song that there is with athletes who seek divine assistance. Why would the ludicrous Bronze Age mythological sky being Yahweh favor America over for example Brazil? Why Tim Tebow over Peyton Manning? It is just plain stupid.
We are not a unique snow flake evidently.

probably had more different lyrics written to it than any other and is quite catchy, and even Canada managed to come up with a stirring and pleasant melody. How the **** did we end up with this ugly, dated exercise in Victorian Somnambulance?

now that's a great idea! I think this particular primitive should volunteer to sing the Russian national anthem during the seventh inning stretch.... at Cleveland.... on bat night! what a great way to bring a community together!

God Bless America is not played at every ball game. The National Anthem, The Star Spangled Banner is played before ball games.

Sometimes, death machines of the Military Industrial Complex simulate bombing runs on the lumpenproletariat herded into the stadia for their weekly dose of bread and circuses.*

Dear OP,

Next year, make a trip to San Diego.  Make sure it's sometime during baseball season, and that it covers a Sunday.  A Padres game is always a good way to spend the afternoon, and it's a great ballpark.

Oh, and make sure you sit right below those Marines who just graduated from MCRD when they start playing a few patriotic songs between innings.  Make sure you complain loud and long, so that they can hear you.

Last time I went to a big league game was in 1978 so you're up on me there.  I was a baby when we left KC...they were just building The Kauf.  Royals are my other team I cheer for next to the Rangers.

Seen plenty of Minor League games though.  Last one I went to in 2005 though they weren't doing the song during the stretch.  So it must be an MLB thing.

I saw a news story this morning about a candlelight remembrance in New Jersey, for the one year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy. The people sang God Bless America. It was a beautiful thing.
