Dick Durbin: GOP leader told Obama ‘I cannot even stand to look at you’ [View all]
The No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, Sen. Dick Durbin, says that a House Republican leader told off President Barack Obama during a negotiation meeting, and that they are so disrespectful it’s practically impossible to have a conversation with them.
“In a ‘negotiation’ meeting with the president, one GOP House Leader told the president: ‘I cannot even stand to look at you,’†Durbin wrote in a post on his Facebook page over the weekend.
Calling a government shutdown strategy from Republicans “disastrous,†Durbin did not specify which leader made the comment, what the context was or how the president responded.
The Senate majority whip offered the comment as rebuttal to the Republican argument that Obama does not do enough to communicate with Republicans, essentially saying to do so is impossible.
“What are the chances of an honest conversation with someone who has just said something so disrespectful?†Durbin wrote.

1. Even though Obama wouldn't say so I'd bet the feeling was mutual.
Right, because the chosen one is so respectful to his political opponents...

3. The "new" republicans are complete asses, disrupter's and terrorists. They do not
belong in a democracy. They are dangerous thugs. More and more Americans, and the world, are recognizing this, finally.
1. Never once have I ever called a primitive a terrorist. You sir or madam, are low.
2. You blindly follow the dangerous thugs. They laugh at you because you willingly gulp the putrid kool-aid they throw up.
3. What we are doing with the tea-party must be working. The crying and the knashing of teeth from your side is getting shrill. We are growing, and taking back our party.
4. You are amusing with how you must be proud of your display of pure ignorance. No, I don't belong in a democracy....because we are a
REPUBLIC.

52. Reading that made me very angry, hate thrown in Obama's face

I very rarely get upset. It is one thing for a computer tough guy on the Internet to say it, but to directly slap President Obama in the face with hate like that is disgusting. Without any context it makes it worse. I can envision the attacker could be a number of leaders and therefore I paint them all with the same brush except for Boehner.
What a thing to wake up to read in the morning. I pray for the President's safety. I pray to never learn who verbally assaulted him, I wish to avoid despising that person. President Obama is a symbol of so much good in our country. He represents a dream fulfilled for so many people. I take this personally.
Politics aside, in some ways Obama is like the Tiawanese basketball player Jeremy Lin, but on a grander scale. When they "can't stand to see his face" I take it personally.
Thank you for the post.
He is not a king. ALL PRESIDENTS are humbled with criticism! Every single one that has ever existed has had this or something worse said to them! Let us not forget
how you people hoped for the worst to befall Obama's predecessor.
