My question is: If the HHS refuses to disclose, how does the AP know how many have signed up?

The AP knows how many people signed up, not how many actually applied.

The AP reporter on this piece went on MSNBC and FOX saying that HHS is hiding abysmal numbers.  Thats why they are refusing to disclose them.  They are more than happy to say that 500,000 have signed up for healthcare.gov, but refuse to say how many actually have applied for insurance.

Good point, MD.  This is like saying that 476,000 people went to Progressive Insurance to get a quote, but 2 signed up for a policy.

Thanks.

Thats basically whats going on.  The numbers they are releasing arent the numbers that really matter.

Dont forget, Obama himself said that Obamacare needs 7,000,000 people signed up, 2.5 million of which have to be youth, or else the entire system will fall apart.  If they released numbers that are as bad as they seem, the calls for it to be repealed or delayed will be simply overwhelming.

Expect them to not release the numbers on their planned monthly release dates either.  Those "glitches" will suddenly rear their ugly head again and prevent them from releasing those numbers.

Okay, how the hell can this administration expect 2.5 M to sign up given under 30 unemployment/underemployed rates and the fact over a quarter of that demographic still lives with their parents?

And of course let's not get into Obumblescare allowing "children" to stay on their parents healthcare plans up to age 26!

Fox News

Not holding my breath.  A demand from Dickless Durbin is worth as much as a Canadian nickel.

About the only good thing about not living in St Louis is not having to see Durbin on the local news (we always got Illinois news, too). I can't stand him almost as much as can't stand Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the rest of the prevaricating bunch. See, I didn't call them liars, just used a fancy name for the same thing.  :-)

Durbin infuriates me to the point that my teeth itch when I see him on TV.  Same goes for that greasy shyster Schumer.

From the link just above:

Ted Cruz, R-Texas, likened the troubled website to something that would be run by Nigerian e-mail scammers.

"You may have noticed that all the Nigerian e-mail scammers have become a lot less active lately," Cruz joked to constituents in Texas. "They all have been hired to run the Obamacare website."

The rollout is a premonition of the implementation. Grotesque.

The next step when this fails miserably will be to confiscate all the retirement accouts to pay for it and then institute a national retirement where everyone gets dog food.

Exactly.  I knew it had been around awhile.  once they figure out that this obabanation can't sustain itself, they'll come after all the money.  It's about to get ugly.  I'm over here in Singapore working and I can tell you what high taxes look like.  This government has a tax on everything.  They even charge a government service tax of 17% on everything.  I see our country going the same route.

Did the lovers of the man-child ever stop to think that if its this hard just to make an account on the website (let alone sign up), whats it going to be like actually getting an appointment or going to the hospital once this is implemented? Welcome to socialism. The waiting time is infinity. Thank you for your patience. :loser:

My father spoke to Blue Cross Blue Shield yesterday, and our healthcare plan is being grandfathered so that way we don't have to worry about obamacare. It will go up $80, but it could be so much worse. The lady he spoke to said that all insured under obamacare will have to go to ONE hospital in Charlotte. This will be interesting...

I think they are state programs with some federal cash.  That's why a lot of Red states didn't buy into it.  The first couple of years, the feds are supposed to pick up a good chunk of the tab, but after that all bets are off.  The red states were afraid of what was going to happen to their budgets, so they opted to leave it in the feds lap to figure out.

I believe Ohio opted out. Of big concern here was the way putting uninsured on Medicaid would affect coverage for the permanently disabled(things like autism, downs, etc). Ohio is quite generous and empathetic to the needs of disabled chilren and does a lot to help with services for families who typically would not qualify based on income so that the disability qualifies them and families can get the help they need for their kids--in most cases Medicaid would act as a secondary insurance. Ohio and disability services here, much to their credit, were concerned about cuts to the services of (not said outright, but certainly one can read between the lines) REAL disabled people if it's Medicaid rolls were now expanded to include the average uninsured person. I commend them for that, but they'd help protect it further if EVERY state and the fed level would require some level of contribution from families for that coverage ie a modest premium and modest copays. Or expand Medicaid to only be a SECONDARY insurance for the low income people. Except in indigent cases or the severly disabled should it ever be a primary insurance situation. Sorry, I should be working on my homework right now  so if this is a bit all over the place...just a few of my ideas for Medicaid. The days of it being a free ride really have to end. Acting as a secondary insurance or primary to low income with required premiums and copay is far more feasible and I think it would help stem abuse since lower income people would still have to pony up a copay which may do the same thing is does to us in the real pay out of your own wallet world which is to perhaps wait for less serious issues to pass instead of seeing a dr. At that point, it gives some accountability so if blunts and alcohol are more important then getting one's STD treated, I have no sympathy then if ones privates fall off for the delay. People can choose to do what their money what they will if they don't go crying to everyone else when the shit hits the fan.

They had a lot to do with the numbers used for uninsured.  A lot of them could afford to get insurance, they just didn't want to spend their money on it.  Pretty typical for a young person to think that way.  I bet they still won't sign up for it and chose to pay the fine.

Yeah, that's what I think, too.  Paying $97 bucks once in a year versus $500+ a month all year?  The math is a no-brainer to a healthy, single twenty-something.

True, having visited Singapore a few times, I can attest that it's incredible the level of taxation they have there.

But I can also state unequivically that there's no way in hell the legal system there would ever be allowed here, either.  Although some things I certainly wouldn't mind seeing (think caning, death penalty for drugs, AND THEY USE IT!)  Singapore is about the ONLY large (or small) city I ever visited in all my travels that I felt perfectly safe in even in the middle of the night.

It still is.  I will say though, if you're a foreigner and have cash or credit card, you go to the head of the line in the hospital.  Who says capitalism isn't dead.  They even tax the perks I get through my company IE per diem, if my hotel has a pool, if I have AC, if I get any extra pay.  Oh yeah, socialism.  And the poor here are still poor and the rich still rich.  Wasn't socialism supposed to fix that [/sarc]

Isn't it 1% or 97.00, whichever is greater? Anyone make over 10K a year will pay more than that for a fine. I can't wait since most of them voted for 0bama.

Believe they use 'Taxable Income,' not 'Gross Income,' for that, which means most people this stupid law was supposed to provide for at everyone else's expense - say, gross of around $25K or less - would be paying the minimum or just a bit over, while (If they didn't qualify for Medicaid instead) actually paying the premiums would break the bank for them.

They're working on it.  It was being considered as late as March of this year.  I know I did a lot of reading on it because I was about to open my TSP.
