Got it -- the award is named for who identified the characteristic. But it is entirely possible another primitive could exemplify it better and/or more consistently.
The voting should be interesting this year. When do polls open (I have been out of it a while)?
The rules for nominations--the official nominating thread--are posted the Sunday before Thanksgiving, but "locked" to comments; it's always hoped that members read the rules before making their nominations.
The nominations are opened Thanksgiving Eve, and end circa supper-time (central time) Pearl Harbor Day.
The ballot is posted the next day, Sunday, December 8, and continues through 10 p.m. central time, Monday, December 16, after which the whole thing's shut down until the eve of Christmas Eve, when the awards start being doled out in ascending order, usually two per day until New Year's Eve.
The new rule this year is that only members of consevativecave may nominate and vote, the idea being that people from other message boards aren't as expert on the characteristics of individual primitives as are those who habituate the DUmpster.
