I guess it's because she decided to stand for eleven hours to run out the clock on the legislative session, so the abortion-regulating bill could not be passed that day. But her "Fila-buster" didn't accomplish anything, since the bill was passed easily at the next session.

Also, politicians like to do these sorts of gimmicks. The pink tennis shoes thus become a symbol she can use with her adoring fans. "I stand with Texas women!" "These shoes are made for running!" Blah blah blah.
