As CBS 2’s Jennifer McLogan reported Monday, officials at Weber Middle School in Port Washington are worried that students are getting hurt during recess. Thus, they have instituted a ban on footballs, baseballs, lacrosse balls, or anything that might hurt someone on school grounds.

Tossing a football during recess has long seemed to be a rite of passage for kids in the school community.

We used to play dodgeball in grade school with our backs against a brick wall on an asphalt parking lot.

Same here.

I also remember my elementary-school gym coach was morbidly obese.  In junior high, the coach carried a golf club and jabbed you with it if he thought you weren't moving fast enough.

We did that, too, and the nuns occasionally joined in with us.  What idiocy kids have to put up with now.
