Study Finds Bias Persists Against Gay and Lesbian Actors
http://variety.com/2013/film/news/sag-aftra-study-finds-bias-persists-against-lgbt-actors-1200674381/

Quote
A SAG-AFTRA study has found that, even as opportunities and conditions improve, discrimination persists against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender actors.

The survey, based on responses from over 5,600 union members, showed nearly half of lesbian and gay respondents and 27% of bisexual respondents “strongly agreed” that producers and studio execs believe that lesbian and gay performers are less marketable.

The report also found that over a third of LGBT performers, as well as some non-LGBT performers, had witnessed “disrespectful” treatment toward these minoroties. And 16% of LGBT respondents reported they had experienced discrimination.

My guess is every other kind of minority and non-minority would say the same thing about their own group. Conservative actors are probably the only group with a legitimate claim for a bias against them.

I call "bullshit".

I watched a story about the latest Emmys. It was a  KY-spattered, glitter-encrusted fagapolooza.

Seriously, who in Hollywood isn't homosexual? If homosexuals thought about it, they'd be ashamed that they are the circus clowns of American society.

They PRETEND to support gay people.

The box office, where 98% of people are NOT gay and thus can't make the fantasy leap from knowing they are gay to being heterosexual romantic leads, speaks more loudly than all Hollywood sanctimony.

Just like Black/Latino films rarely do well when they shoot at their target audiences since the audience is at most 12% (per target).

The funny part is that we know liberals are all racists and sexists and the last thing they will do in the privacy of their own entertainment selections is actually PAY FOR AND WATCH gays and minorities.

Really, it makes sense.  When you have an amazing romantic storyline, do you want your audience thinking about how the male lead is actually gay and break up the fantasy?  Or, if you have the main character kicking a$$ and taking names, do you want your audience thinking about how he does interior design in his spare time.  (Yes, I know that was horribly stereotypical.  Deal with it)

Here's what I saw on the CBS news report about the Emmys:

Neil Patrick Harris was the host- homosexual who plays straight.
The guy from Big Bang Theory won an award- he was shown with his boyfriend. He plays straight.
The lesbian from Glee mooed about that actor who OD'd.
The movie about Liberace won an award. Michael Douglas looked like an old queen.
Elton John sang a song.

I call BS, Tom Cruise is still a big draw at the box office.

I don't care what preference an actor is or isn't but I'm not going to watch a gay themed movie like BarackBack Mountain.

OTOH, take a look at Ellen Degeneres's career.  Her sitcom was doing okay ratings wise until she came out of the closet.  But it wasn't because she was gay. No, suddenly the show was nothing but unfunny gay jokes.  If there was a bias against gays, would her talk show still be on TV after all these years?

"White Collar" is a relatively new show and the main character actor, Matt bomer is gay but his character isn't, and the show does good in the ratings.

I call BS on it too.  :bs: That being said, Hollywood was not involved in the Civil Rights Movement, save Charleton Heston.

The most bigoted I have come across are leftists. Very small minded group.  :mental:

A small number of exceptional exceptions.

"Sheldon" is all but neuter, but any progress with his relationship with Amy Fowler will probably be tainted from now on (watch: it won't progress).  If Kaley Cuoco or Johnny Galecki came out of the closet it would spell death to the series.  The whole subplot of Raj/Wolowitz kinda-gay was killed off after the latter's marriage since it could not sustain the audience demographic.

Trust me, most people are not comfortable (98% - the same as the % of straight people) around gayness nor overt racism (aka films about color) and won't pay to watch or see them.

If Tom Cruise were to marry a guy it would end his career.  And he and his boyfriend both know it.

Ellen doesn't depend on romantic comedy -- she just has a so-so daytime talk show put on to prove Hollywood's ability to sustain tokenism.

Hollywood sees one color: Green; and one sex: Bucks.  And teh gay doesn't play with either.

The rest is just protective coloration (partial pun intended).

I'm not a TV watcher much at all, and I damned sure don't watch Ellen or any other ridiculous bullshit talk show.

Fudgepacker/rugmuncher or not, television is an enormous waste of time.

My take on "The Big Bang" characters.....hey, the wife watches one hour of reruns every night while cooking and in return I get to watch anything after that that's on PBS that interest me.....which isn't often.

Sheldon: I'd kill that arrogant S.O.B.. Reminds me to much of elitist democrats

Leonerd: He could come over and we'd have a beer sometime.

Howard: Well, since he's married.....nah, still wouldn't let him close to a female family member.

Raj: Welcome to America and keep your paper work in order.

Amy: Would like to be taking that ride when that slumbering volcano of pent up sexual frustration erupts.

Bernadette: I bet that petite little number gets down and dirty behind closed doors. :naughty:

Penny: Dress that corn fed country gal up and wear her around town like a charm bracelet....then
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

What, the Ghay version of Downton Abby not doing so well?
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”
