Speaking of Bobby KKK Byrd, I remember him filibustering something in the Senate back in the 80's or 90's, talking about his ol' bird dog, Billy.

Yet the assholes in the media, the Senate, and DU belittle Cruz for reading "Green Eggs and Ham".

"Hiding behind the Constitution." Leftists love to use that phrase. Let's examine it:

To make such a statement invites the question - Exactly who and what would they be hiding from? I think the answers are instructive on how the Left views rights.

Not from ridicule, because the Left certainly exercises that freely and with gusto. You might say it's their go-to move to avoid being drawn into reasoned debates, in which they don't fare too well, and comes in at #5 on Alinsky's Greatest Hits List - "5. Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”

Not from being faced with countering opinions, because the 1st Amendment grants equal protection to those with different views.

So that only leaves a couple of things that anyone would have to hide from in exercising free speech - individual or mob violence intended to shut them up, or a revamping of that same 1st Amendment to make it further restrictive, granting the government more power to squelch expression.

So again, bill58, since it's your expression, why would they have to hide? From what and whom? And which side of the Constitution are you on? We already know you'd like the 2nd and 10th Amendments stripped out.

1. The KKK was founded by Democrats, and in its early days it targeted Republicans almost as much as it targeted blacks.
2. Repulsive though they are to all decent human beings, they still have the right to free speech. As long as they fill out all the proper permits and conform to all the proper laws and don't use their event to promote violence or anything, they should be able to demonstrate. I'd rather have our current system in which free speech is allowed at the cost that even people with truly vile and heinous views are allowed to say what they want within reason, than to have a totalitarian state in which the right to free speech is taken away from everyone out of fear that what they say might be deemed offensive.
3. They're SERIOUSLY worried about the Klan? The KKK is a complete joke nowadays. It has no more than 6,000 members nationwide, and hasn't committed any acts of violence or terrorism in decades because its members know the Feds are watching them like hawks eager for an excuse to shut them down once and for all.
4. "Today's Republican Party is essentially the old Confederacy"? When's the last time you heard a Republican propose reinstating slavery?

There won't be, or if there is we will never know this hero's name.  The left wants a war.  They think they can win it.  Their understanding of the nature of war starts at Platoon and ends in a "Call of Duty" game.  Only they think they can stop their opponents from having guns.  It's still going to be a nasty ugly thing with nothing at the end but the survivors and the dead.

Yep DD. Byrdie-dog lost my vote for evermore in 94 when he voted for the assault weapons ban. He knew he would win any election and he had ceased to represent the people of WV.  That is why I like close elections. Rockysmeller is another one, but he has seen the writing on the wall by supporting obumbles so he is retiring. That seat will go to Capito, a GOP.  Manchin is starting to feel the heat too. WV is turning GOP with obumbles in the White House.

I was working in WV when Shelly won her seat for the first time in the WV House.  She'd make a damned fine senator.

Just like Rockyfeller to "f" something up and then quit.  They're STILL fixing the mess he left as governor from undercutting the bids for the Turnpike back in the 80's.
