The Big Guy, The Omaha Weeper, Tosses His Hat Back Into The Ring
« on: September 26, 2013, 06:36:13 PM »
I think the big guy needs some help with his new campaign. He self-identifies as a tax-and-spend democrat, but he doesn't really get into his support for socialism. Socialism is really popular in Bellevue, Nebraska:

(Omaha Steve) Candidates field questions at forum

http://www.omaha.com/article/20130926/NEWS2001/130929029/1120#candidates-field-questions-at-forum

By Eugene Curtin

A well-attended candidates forum Wednesday night saw the four men seeking election to the Ward I seat on the Bellevue City Council field questions from the Bellevue Leader and from an audience of about 100 people.

Steve Carmichael, Dave Compton, Steven Dawes and Michael Knebel spent almost two hours addressing questions as varied as the city's budget, the need for economic development, building harmony on the City Council, the possibility of establishing a restaurant tax and the worth of the recently installed bicycle lanes along Fort Crook Road.

Dawes, the lone Democrat seeking election, drew laughter when he introduced himself as “the tax-and-spend Democrat in the race.” He stood firm throughout the evening for the principle that Bellevue residents must be willing to pay for excellent service, and that the future of Bellevue depends on how much its people are willing to invest.

He said he favors establishing a restaurant tax because that would bring in revenue from non-Bellevue residents using Bellevue restaurants.

I think the people of Ward 1 Bellevue would also be interested in his quest for disability.

Not much interest from the DUmmies.

MUD, Black Hills Energy fees fuel Dawes’ campaign
Source: Bellevue Leader

By Eugene Curtin

Among the usual concerns about balancing budgets and funding the fire department, Steve Dawes finds time to advocate a change he’s been talking about for more than a year.

It rankles the seven-year College Heights resident that people in Ward I pay about $100 more a year for their natural gas than people who live in the rest of Bellevue.

That’s because most Bellevue residents get their natural gas from the Metropolitan Utilities District whereas Olde Towne residents, due to a franchise agreement written when Bellevue did not extend much beyond Olde Towne, get theirs from the pricier Black Hills Energy.

Dawes, a Democrat and an information services technician with the Omaha Police Department, said resolving that inequity will be his primary goal if elected to the City Council.

You got that right!

Every DUchebag is coming around the last corner and whipping their horses like nobody's business.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

In case one's nto aware, this is the race for the same seat the big guy sought last year.

The incumbent won, but then some months later took a job somewhere else, and had to move away.

Knebel of course is known to us as the libertarian candidate, as he had been in the prior race.

I haven't looked it up, but I believe Carmichael was the Tea Party candidate running against the now-former councilman in the general election last year.  One might recall the latter is an establishment Republican.

I know nothing about this Compton guy.

I wish formerlurker were still among us; damn whoever it was who chased her away.

This is coming up rather fast:

One wonders if all those yard signs the big guy hired his union buddy in Lincoln to print are still available, or if they've already gone to the paper-shredder, undelivered because he neglected to pay for them.

What I am having trouble understanding is why Steve once again failed to take your advice about staying away from the DUmp.

Had he not posted a link at the DUmp about his candidacy, he could have crept into office quietly on October 15th, totally unbeknownst to the Friends of Steve Dawes.

Some people never learn.

A restaurant tax? Does that include mini tacos?

1. Black Hills Energy pulling plug on solar program in southern Colorado

Black Hills Energy, which serves Pueblo and 52 towns and cities in southern Colorado, is set to pull the plug on its solar-panel incentive program.

The Rapid City, S.D.-based utility is proposing cutting its current program by about 75 percent, according to a renewable-energy plan filed with the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.

Low natural-gas prices make adding renewable energy sources uneconomical, said Christopher Burke, vice president for Colorado utility operations.

"This is a pretty good punch in the gut," said JD Johnson, owner of SolStore, a Pueblo-based solar installer. "We are just looking for some consistency."

Look how the other guys are front and center in this shot, while Steve seems to have based his seating decision solely on how close he was to the refreshments table:

We'll see, but I suspect his friends have a better idea this time around, to get his message across to the voters of Bellevue.

Many trusted DUers knew about this for awhile. Early voting starts on Monday September 30th. Election day is Tuesday October 15th.

The candidates forum was held tonight: http://www.omaha.com/article/20130918/NEWS2001/130918782/1120#leader-to-sponsor-ward-i-forum It was recorded and will run on Bellevue's Government cable channel three times a day until a few days before election day.

I have new yard signs on the way. I could use some DU help to pay for a one time mailer to the ward. Donations can be made here: http://stevedawes2013.com/contribute.htm There will be no tote board on the amount raised on DU until AFTER the election is over.

I'm running a better campaign this time around. Last time I ran my mom was dying of cancer. That took a lot of time away from things and the mental drag didn't help. She died three months after the primary.

This is a race that is up for grabs.

I wonder if the DUmmies will meet the challenge better than they did for Amber or Stew.

The field consists of two Republicans, a libertarian nut, and a DUmmy.

In an October special election where a tiny handful will vote, a couple of clown cars from a union hall could swing an election. Good thing even the union guys can't stand Steve.
