Snooze Bender is 30, and he wants to hook up with an 18 year old. Nothing usually wrong with this, but since it's out on DU it's bound to hit CC, so I'd be a bit on the zipped mouth side with this one. Let's take a look:

So I met someone special at the gym back a week ago. We've really hit it off and connect like basically on every level. I'm 30 and it just seems like dating a 18-year-old (Mar. 20, 1995) would be weird? Both my dad and I have this thing where we look like 15 years younger than our age. So, I don't even really look 18 let alone 30! We're also at pretty similar stages in life. I haven't moved out yet since my Mom advised me not to move out until you find someone special and have something better to go to so we both live at home. We both go to the gym each day. We're both in super good shape and dare I say gorgeous. We're both fanatical about our NHL Canucks and President Obama... Oh yeah, we always have to be the last one to message each other on FB and get into silly games to see who says the last word We are already super good friends after just a week.

Is it wrong anyway to consider dating??!! Should I drop this? Also, there is a double-header NHL game on Saturday night. Would it be cool to ask to hang out? We can have pizza and then watch the double header in which our Canucks are participating!

I will say that I'm so happy this came along to deflect me off that jerk who didn't invite me to his wedding and didn't make an effort to be friends with me whatsoever! I was devastated. Also, he never texted back. It was 1 text and done!  Oh yeah and in 2012, I had another person who I thought was a friend who was always dismissive of me. I guess its like they say - its always darkest before the dawn. So nice to finally meet someone who doesn't dismiss me!

How many things are so wrong here?

1. You are 30 and havn't moved out. Your bogus reason is that you are waiting for that "special someone." Let me be more succinct. You are a ****ing lazy dummie who has feckless parents who won't drive you out of the house to get a real job and DO something!!

2. You are both fanatical about Obama...of course, that's not a reason not to hook up (though DON'T spawn), but remember the adage about liberals and hearts, conservatives and heads, age 20 and age 30...

3. If you have to race to be the last one to text on Facebook, and you are 30 male, that seals your fate, if being a DUmmie weren't enough.

OK, the Obama child is starry-eyed with your gym presence. 30 year old corporate CEO's essentially look the same as 30-year old couch lounging douche-bags sponging off their parents, so I can kinda understand, but I digress.

Anyway...you know her BIRTH-DATE already? That's creepy, Dr_J territory. In any case, it is completely understandable that an 18 year old girl still lives at home right after high school. Of course, I doubt she has a Daddy, because if I were her "Daddy," "Daddy" would be none-too-pleased at a man who's had a dozen adult years trying to hook up with a kid who's ony a few months "legal." (Of course, she wouldn't be an Obama supporter, but I again digress.)

I dated a guy that was 14 years younger.

After him, I dated a guy that was 23 years younger (4 years younger than my son).

My husband is 7 years older.

Like you, I look a lot younger than my age. The two guys I dated looked older. The (at the time) 21 year old looked to be in his 30s. On two occasions I was asked for ID at a bar and he wasn't. Pissed him off.

Both were mature for their ages. The 21 year old more than the 31 year old. I'm still friends with the younger one. The other died of a drug overdose 2 years ago. We had kept in contact, for the most part. But, it was getting harder to do so because of his addiction. I just couldn't save him.

I know plenty of people older than myself that don't have the maturity of a 16 year old. As long as you go into the relationship with knowledge of the reality of the situation, there's nothing wrong with it. You're only 30 years old. The most difficult part of a relationship with someone younger is their friends. Your 'interest' may be more mature, but that doesn't mean his friends are.

Take it slow and try the relationship out as friends, first.

1. No boy/man in his right mind would "date" or "go out" with a much older woman UNLESS it was strictly for the purposes of sex.

2. And even then, nobody in their right mind would date a dummy unless they were a dummie themselves.

I won't lie, 18 is young. But then again, so is 30 (so get off my lawn, you young whippersnapper!!)

I know for myself, I could never date someone who was not from around the same generational culture as I. My wife is my age, and women I've been attracted to have always been within 5 years of my age.

BUT if it works, it works. If you both feel that way then go for it.

Translation: I was so ugly that I could only attract an 18 year old guy when I was 30. It was platonic because he wouldn't screw me or take me to Dairy Queen. And his "young friends" were snickering at you, along with your "guy," quite loudly behind your back.

I guess in some of my comments they were a bit out of line, such as age differences of people who've both at least been around a rodeo over two. Without being too general, I'd have to say if you are 25, dating anyone 50 or younger is ok, sex irrelevant, though 30 is a more reasonable minimum. I don't diss younger men/older women dating relationships, but maturity has to be both adult and similar.

In most of the DUmmie's cases, maturity is rarely adult, so age is not an issue regardless. Nonetheless, they need to be called out if they are near-pedo-like.

And I guess I AM a bit fuddy duddy; I didn't even think that the 18 year old would be a guy. To be blunt, the last text competition part didn't jive with that of a gay 18 year old male as it would with an 18 year old girl, and that part solidified the girl part. Nonetheless, without regard to sex, the age dynamic still holds.

While you're probably right, I wouldn't jump to conclusions either way.  There are plenty of gays on DU who use personal pronouns matching their preferences and their partners', without regard to actual biology.

First off, why would a 30 year old male have to ask questions in the first place about an age difference ?   He has a CRUSH on someone, give me a break, is this lust or just a I enjoy being around this person. ?

That's exactly what I was thinking, vesta.  I know a guy who is in this exact situation- he's in his mid-thirties, weighs about 500 pounds (I wish I were joking), and yet no woman out there is good enough for him.  When he's probed further, momma is definitely pulling the strings.  It's sad.
