When you see ads for high paying construction jobs in far away places you had better ask a lot of questions.....a lot of questions.
Actually, the places advertising these lists sent exactly what they promised.
Comprehensive, well-printed lists, I must add.
I wasn't a sucker for sending them $40; I was a sucker in that I wrote letters of application
to every single company on the lists. It was easy to do, because I was co-manager of a photocopying center at the time, and could mass-produce cover letters and resumes. But it cost me a fortune in postage.
Many of the places actually responded, with regrets of course.
But there were a few companies--for some odd reason, generally located in Chicago--who were rather huffy about their regrets, ".....you know, we're getting really tired of having to write to every Tom, Dick, and Harry....." or something along those lines.
