She Ran Her Mother Over, Checked On Her. said she was still breathing and drove off? Wow ...

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - A woman with a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit for driving backed over her mother and left the scene even though loved ones yelled, "You killed grandma," police said. Lisa Ann Casteel, 40, was charged with negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated. (Snip) Sheriff's deputies were told by witnesses that Casteel backed over her mother, Mary Jane Donn, 56, as Donn sat in a plastic chair in the driveway of a home where relatives had gathered, according to an arrest affidavit.

Oh dear God. What a horrible way to go. I wonder how she felt after she sobered up? I can't imagine....

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I confess. That might have been my first thought.

Let nothing frighten you.
All things are passing;
God never changes.
Patience attains all that it strives for.

God alone suffices.

The affidavit said a breath test showed Casteel had a blood-alcohol content of 0.243 percent.
And they released her on $3,000 bond?

In many places in the US, this is now Murder as opposed to manslaughter -- as it should be.

ya know, i immediately thought the same thing... politics do not matter here, can you even imagine killing a family member that way?  I do not honestly know how I would live past that one..

i know she was drunk, but bless her heart.. that is just so sad.

That's one of the things I've yet to grow accustomed to living in NH..."reasonable" bail means pocket change.

I've seen DUI charges bailed out on $250 here, whereas when I lived in CA, a red-light camera ticket costs more.

Here's a local story where a 17-year old girl was underage drinking, but rather than just take a ticket, decided she wanted to go WWE with "da Po-Po"...

Story link HERE.

$2500 bond for 10 charges?  Must be nice.  Try getting that in a liberal haven.

well, i see your issue here: NH probably doesnt have the illegal tax base from which to pull more dollars and buy those red-light cameras. :-)

3k bond isn't a lot. I would hope that was just the 10% a person normally has to pay. 30k would be more appropriate. The District Court judge would have been the one to set this I think.

Drunk or not, the woman unintentionally killed her own mother.  It wasn't cold blooded murder.  It is sad.

Booze has destroyed so many lives.  No, I am not a prohibitionist.
