Wanna hear something crazy? My daughter loses her food stamps if she takes more than 5 credits

at the community college (she's a freshman). Unless she's working at least 20 hours per week as well.

She lives at home with me, and we both currently qualify for food stamps.

So let me get this straight. She's expected to work MORE at the same time that she is taking more credits.

Guess that's why they call 'em starving students, huh?

Once again we have 2 generations of people on food stamps. They sure teach their children well at DU.  :whatever:

4. I've got another one.

I live in public housing. If I take more than 9 hours, I'll lose my housing. I understand why they have it set up that way; they don't have enough public housing to put up all the struggling students as well as the people on public assistance. But these regulations also hurt people who are working to make their financial situation better so they can move out of these places. There's all sorts of little caveats like that in federal regulations that deal with getting help. It would be socialistic to help out people who aren't totally indigent, you know.

Another winner.

Once again the smartest people ever need the government to supply their every need.

Just waiting to hear the howls of outrage when the state starts demanding piss tests on those on local or government assistance.    How about the old bugaboo tobacco, or booze.

Assistance means food, clothing and shelter, if one can afford a pack of cigarettes a day, over a year they have spent almost $2,000 on just that, that we pay for.    Add in the booze and drugs, no wonder people are going hungry as we finance their addiction's.

Check out the inner city's schools and keep note of the brand new $200. sneakers the kids are wearing.   Darn my kids grew up wearing BOBOs, kids feet grow so fast in the summer I was buying them sneakers every 2 months.

I could not raise 4 kids in to days world, just barely made it in their youth.   We did it somehow back then, most likely because we did not smoke, drink or do drugs.

It can be done to day, if stronger guidelines were placed on assistance.    Screw this " It's for the children Shit, these kids are the responsibility of the parents and if the parents think more of themselves,   Don't come bitching at me that I should care more for their kids then I do myself and my family.

Charity begins at home,  Why should people in their 80's go without life saving medicine so the neighbor can sit on their porch drink a cold one, smoke a joint and complain the kids have nothing to eat but corn flakes with water.

26. We need more public housing.

We also need to remove the stigma of living in public housing...everybody up to the poverty line should be entitled to a free government domicile if they want one and people up throughout the middle-class should be able to get subsidized housing on a sliding-contribution scale.

Well, the stigma comes from the residents of the public housing turning it into an absolute shithole within minutes.  Naturally, people are going to regard those who live in trash, to be trash.

Anyway, the DUmp goes on to discuss a bunch of details in the rules and regs, I skimmed over it, there were large paragraphs with runon sentences....some rule about "fixing meals together" being some important aspect.  It made my head explode.  Who would even want to get involved in any of this shit?  If you make some mistake, they'll come after you, too.

If you want to use that "logic," then working itself is slavery. Because what is working if it's not using your personal resources (whether your mind, or body, or both) in a way in which you gain some reward (profit) from it?

You just cornered yourself, dimwit, and you're not smart enough to even realize it.

When I was in school, for the most part 1 credt per 1 hour of class time,  except for required PE classes which were 3 hours class time = 1 hour credit. That was a long time ago.

My son's in school and most of his are 1 credit = 1 hour class time.

Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Would that be one hour every day, or just a couple days a week?

I had a 4 credit night class.  I went two nights a week for 4 hrs. ea. I was also working full time then too.

If you're taking 18 hours a semester, that means you attend class for 18 hours a week every week of the semester.

Sounds like you took a condensed course. I had several of those during summer school. With me, it was usually a 3 hour course, but you met 3 days a week for 3 hours at a time.

18 hours is full-time (six three-hour classes).

That's a lot of classes.

Free food, free housing, free healthcare.....hell, why not just retire right out of high school.

I think the leeching DUchebag is lying.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

If I had a 3 credit class, during the day, I went 3 days a week for 50 minutes each time or 2 days a week for 1 hour, 20 minute each class.

If I had a 3 credit night class, I went 2.5 hours one night a week.

Except for PE (gym classes) which were only 1 credit - no matter what -  and were anywhere from 50 minutes each to 2.5 hours, depending on the class, time of day and day of week, or if it was a 9 week class or 18 week class.
