George P. Bush Backs Ted Cruz In Defunding Obamacare
« on: September 04, 2013, 02:39:07 PM »
Quote
Some Republican lawmakers, including Cruz, want Congress to approve a measure that funds government operations but doesn’t leave money for the Affordable Care Act. Such legislation would be vetoed by President Barack Obama, setting up a showdown that could result in a government shutdown.

Many Republicans, including conservatives in the House, have questioned the idea, predicting that the GOP would take the blame for a shutdown.

Bush, the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, said he supported Cruz’s efforts.

I do believe the Bush name will be greater historically speaking, than the Kennnedy's by a long shot.
Would not be surprised if this man became president one day. He's been a rising Republican for a while now,
and the fact that he is supporting Cruz, makes me hopeful for him.

I don't know.  I don't think too many people want to see another Bush in the WH, and he is Jeb's son.

^true. Very true. And I do not like Jeb.
However, I think it would take him quite a while to become President, and by that time the political atmosphere
will have changed.
I just don't think America is done with the Bushes. Too many grandbabies.
It just seems like Americans tend to go toward big-name politicians. With backgrounds and families we recognize easily.
The big exception being The Man Child...he came out of left field. Literally.

The radical libs didn't throw that mold away.  Obumbles is the product of elitist liberal academia.  Columbia and Harvard have many, many more models just like him on their production line.

^^^This.

I have enormous respect for GWB, but he was a spendaholic and that is exactly the kind of thing we won't need for the next 35-40 years or so.

^ditto.
I would give anything to have him back instead of the embarrassment we have today, but yes he had spending issues. I realize largely due to two wars, but you can't ignore it. I don't like Jeb, and I view him as being more of a McCain type. He cozies up to Clinton more than anyone in the family, and borders on being a rhino. I would hope if George P Bush got in the spotlight, at least some of his uncle would rub off.

Wait.  GWB inherited a recession.  His debt to GDP went from 55% to 62% from 2001 to 2007. An increase of 7%.  He also had 9/11 which was a big hit on our economy and then two wars.  The biggest increase was from 2008 to 2009.  An increase of another 20%.  Don't forget who had control of both houses of congress.  I remember Pelosi and company holding Bush hostage over the funding of the wars for their pet projects.

To his credit he fixed the recession of 2000/2001 and if my memory serves me correctly, he never not once pointed his finger at Clinton. (Although I am happy to.)

9/11 threw the market into a tail spin, but the congressional over-haul in 2006 was what brought us this stagnant economy you see before your eyes.
The bone I pick with GWB are the bail outs. He apologized for abandoning his free market principles in an interview, post presidency however. I do think he is an honest man.

I'm not going to engage in a bunch of Bush-bashing, but some of the other issues I've had problems with include the "restructuring" of various administration entities, thereby creating this monstrous bureaucracy that we've all grown to hate called the Department of Homeland Security; No Child Left Behind, which is the biggest pile of educational garbage since NEA; and yeah, the failure to properly plan for the aftereffects of the Iraq war.

His policies, on the other hand, helped make up for the massive spending that he undertook, but he still spent the money.

Quote
when President George W. Bush took office, our national debt was $5.768 trillion. By the time Bush left office, it had nearly doubled, to $10.626 trillion.

Under Barry's watch, of course, spending has exploded beyond belief, but none of that exonerates GWB from his spending habits.
