I love handbags

I have a beautiful handbag I bought for myself for a milestone birthday nearly two years ago. Here it is.

after which photograph of a brown purse

It's a Brahmin bag, not close to Oprah's price range, but then I don't have Oprah's money. Being me and liking a bargain, I used a coupon during Macy's Friends and Family sale.

I don't give a shit about cutting-edge electronics or fancy cars, but I love a nice handbag. So does Oprah. Our sense of what a nice bag is varies greatly in accordance with our incomes.

Know what else? I would like another bag, and just might buy one sometime in the next year.

Maybe this one if I can swing it.

after which a photograph of an orange purse

The money I spent on that bag or might spend in the future could be spent on feeding starving children in Africa. I don't feed starving children in Africa; Oprah does. I contribute a bit from each paycheck to the local food shelf, not nearly what Oprah contributes either in dollars, obviously, or I suspect in percentage of income.

We all spend money on stuff we absolutely don't have to. That money you may spend on beer and cigarettes or computer stuff could feed lots of starving people. Starving children across the world would love to have access to the food scraps so insignificant to you that they go in the garbage. They would consider your consumption every bit as disgusting as you consider Oprah's.

None of that changes the fact that Oprah is a black woman, and no matter how much money she has and what she can afford, she will always be black. Because of that, she is subject to being treated as inferior, like every other person with black and brown skin on this planet. Some have gone to great lengths to dismiss, explain away, and every justify racism. White privilege hinges on denying racism. Yeah, I know you don't feel more privileged that Oprah because it most ways you aren't, but you will never hear a story of a white celebrity being told she can't afford something. Nor will people on this site complain about Angelina Jolie's expensive clothes or Jay Leno's many, many cars. They are white, and no one questions their right to acquire stuff. Oprah, however, is another story.

New campfire, just lit.

<<<wonders if it'll bring Pamela out of hibernation.

Jugs has a very weird obsession for Oprah.  How her fetish for handbags (while discussing Oprah's handbags) morphed into how much money Oprah has and ending with the liberal's crowning subject, Oprah's skin color and rich white people.

I wonder what her "milestone birthday" was.

Fifty, maybe?

The Oprah is in some Forrest Whitaker movie about the Kennedy administration coming out soon.  So we get another 90-minute dose of liberal history revisionism, Camelot worship, race-baiting, and assassination conspiracies.

It's the perfect masturbation material for the average liberal.  I expect it to do well.

I believe her main intention was not so much to worship Oprah per se as to whip the other denizens of the Democratic Party's rubber room back into line after some of them said something mean about Oprah's conspicuous consumption, which like most excesses is only bad when done by Republicans, their family members, or anyone in their circle of friends and business associates.

Pretty sure that this little fable has to do with 0prah being dished in  Switzerland when she went to buy a very expensive hand bag. It's the racism naturally. Couldn't be a leftist and not be a racist.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I just don't share the female obsession with purses(and to some extent shoes). That said, i wouldn't even buy that hideous orange thing at a thrift store. UGLY!

BTW, anyone notice the usual liberal mantra of do what I say, not what I do? Apparently, wealthy conservatives may not spend their money as they wish and should be scourged for not paying menial labor a 'living wage' yet wealthy talk show personalities running huge television production conglomerates that are black AND liberal, are entitled to a little indulgence as their wealth dictates--same for liberal, gun hating grant writers...HYPOCRITES! Guess it never occurs to the liberal hack that conservatives and moderates are entitled to enjoy the fruits of their labors on trivial items that they enjoy as well.  :banghead:

The swiss shop in question is defending their employee. The clerk said she was trying to be kind by offering less expensive selections to a customer. Sometimes kindness and courtesy are interpreted as racism. Sometimes being the good Samaritan means no good deed will go unpunished.
The coup de grace is that libs love saying the word "bag".
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Dumb, really odd.

At 8-9 I learned a good lesson on female accessory's.   Xmas I got $3.00 from a relative. Now I had been looking at the older girls that had wallets and decided to spend my money and get one too.

Off I went and bought one for with tax $2.95 cents.  Oh so happy I filled it with my friends school pictures and then realized I had only a nickel to place in it.   Lesson No. one in life , do not spend money on something just because other people have it.

Lesson No. 2-----At 14 I was at a school dance and left my wallet in the pocket of my coat and some one stole it. the wallet not the coat. I HAD ABOUT $2.00 and some family pictures and friends that were irreplaceable.     Lesson learned, never cart about anything someone may steal.

Pursers, I graduated to them the next year and found they were not worth the trouble.   I was afraid to put it down on the bleachers to dance for fear it would be stolen, what did I have in it, a new wallet sans photos a few bucks ,lipstick and a comb, the purse itself rather unusual as Mom had picked it up in Boston at a thrift store and was one of a kind up here in the sticks.

As I grew into an adult I began to make my own one of a kind purses, someone gave me the idea that I should put a long strap on it to go over my head and hang down at my side instead of the off the one shoulder type that are easily stolen or grabbed.

Few years ago Joanna's had a fall sale on fake fur.   I went in and bought about $30.00 worth of all colors and some on sale fake velvet.      I went home and made up about 15 just bag type purses with long straps and lined all with the fake velvet.  I put in Velcro closers and used up the cheap jewelery I bought at Good will.

I brought them to work and set them on a table in the cafeteria -----I priced them at $20.00 each and sold out before work.     Spent $50.00 for material including the Velcro and sold them for $300.00.

It was close to the holiday season, and Hubby encouraged me to take off a week from work and make 50 more.  No way, What would I do with them, how could I sell them, everyone I sold to at work had bought me out.

What a scam, remember Monaca after the Clinton incident went into making hand bags with a very high cost ?   Nothing special, something you or a 12 year old child could make.

You want something that is unusual, not another one like it, make your own ,no sewing machine, a needle and clear dental floss for thread will last years.

One of us posted pictures of purses they made out of old blue jeans, good Job, one of a kind, rather have that with personal satisfaction then spend $400.00 + for something I  had only $10.00 left to put in it.

i gotta agree with you, Vesta. Nothing like toting about a complimented purse that one has made oneself. Leather is obviously out except for those experienced with sewing such unforgiving and stiff material, but everything else...I have fabric with snoopy on it from last fall that I bought on clearance. My autistic son loves Peanuts so I'm making him something with it and my  mother loves Peanuts too and I'm going to make her a tote for her papers with the rest and find a nice durable lining for the outside. I'm going to hit the Goodwill too and see if I can find some old ornaments or old household trinkets with peanuts on them to hang from the zipper(the small keychain type of thigns or something similar--nothing bigger then that) or decorate the bag with a little Snoopy bling:-)

Yeah...it's pretty much like buying a mint 19th Century .45 hogleg at the full collector price today, and then using it the same way a cowboy would've back in the day, every time he needed something to use as a hammer, prybar, pot-hook, or blunt instrument and didn't have a handier substitute available.
