Sixth foot washes up in B.C.

The RCMP says a sixth human foot was discovered on a sand spit in this Vancouver Island community Wednesday morning.

The foot, reportedly a right foot in a black Adidas running shoe, was discovered at about 10:30 a.m. by a woman picking rocks on the ocean side of the spit.

The woman asked Sandra Malone, manager of the Thunderbird RV Park, to call the police, who arrived shortly after with a forensics team.

While she was waiting, Ms. Malone went down to look at the foot, which was lying above the high-tide line about a metre from the grass.

"You could see the foot was actually inside the running shoe, it was a black running shoe," she said.

This is a research facility and does not offer tours or open its doors for the morbidly curious.  The bodies within were donated in the name of science and any intrusion into the facility could taint ongoing studies.  The University has even erected a fence around the facility to keep out gawkers and reports that there have been some injuries of people attempting to get over the barbed wire fence.  In short, respect the "No Trespassing" signs and let the researchers do their work.  If you want to get into the facility, you can either apply for admission into the Anthropology Department at the University of Tennessee or donate your body for scientific study to the University.

Latest severed foot a hoax, coroner says

A prankster is responsible for a sixth foot that washed on British Columbia shores, a hoax that raised fears among the families of missing persons and prompted the RCMP to launch a separate investigation.

The B.C. Coroner's Service announced Thursday that the foot found on a Vancouver Island beach the day before was not human, but in fact a skeletonized animal paw stuffed inside a sock and a running shoe.

“We have to say that this is a despicable act; we're not going to sit back and let this go,” said RCMP Const. Annie Linteau, who confirmed the prank. “We're now embarking on a whole new investigation, which could involve public mischief charges against the person or persons involved.”

She described the prank as “absolutely unbelievable” and urged people with information to contact police.
