Nicholas V. Negro, 35, a social studies teacher at John Jay High School, was charged with first-degree robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon and second-degree assault, all felonies.

DANBURY, CONN. — A Wappingers Central School District teacher accused of robbing a gas station with a hammer is being investigated in connection with other recent burglaries in the Danbury area, police said this morning.

Danbury police say the investigation against Nicholas V. Negro, 35, a social studies teacher at John Jay High School, is ongoing. Negro is accused of a botched robbery at 7-Eleven on Mill Plain Road in Danbury, Conn. late last month.

"We're investigating whether Mr. Negro was involved in any other robberies in our community," said Lt. Tom Michael, of the Danbury Police Department. "There are other robberies with similar MOs (modus operandi)."

Danbury police charged Negro with first-degree robbery, carrying a dangerous weapon and second-degree assault, all felonies, for the robbery July 24. Negro, from Brewster, Putnam County, also was charged with second-degree breach of peace, sixth-degree larceny and third-degree assault, all misdemeanors.
