1. You have my complete sympathy!

I have moved about 6 times and they were from 1200 to the least of 600miles. It really, really sucks!

I remember one time when we rented a U Haul trailer and it use to say on the side of them"Adventure in Moving" I remember thinking this is not my idea of an adventure.

2. I never found it harder to move 500 miles than to move 1/2 mile.

For me, the abysmal part was the packing and unpacking, not the roadtrip.

Except during the 70's, during a seriously battle-iffic trucker's strike, when some folks were tossing concrete blocks off of overpasses to go through a scab truck's windshield.

We moved a friend's grandma from Tennessee to Missouri and thought it would be a great idea to start long before there was much traffic out there.

After we got started -- my buddy driving a huge U-Haul and I in a chase car -- I realized that it was pitch-dark out on the Interstate and that it would be very hard to distinguish the difference between the lights of a U-Haul and the iights of an 18-wheeler... ESPECIALLY if there were alcohol involved.

I grabbed some extra sodas and snacks at the gas station I was at and zoomed up to catch my buddy and get him to pull over -- where we stayed, drinkin' Co-Colas n' eatin' Moon Pies until the sun came up.

I lived in an RV for 5 years or so and moved several times.

It entailed unplugging my electrical and my sewage connection from the site, checking to make sure most things were fairly battened down and driving off.

I highly recommend it to anyone who hates moving as much as I.

8. been there, done that, with 17 years worth of stuff

Not to mention a dozen plus birds, a rabbit, a large number of house plants and a horse, and all of their stuff too.

It took weeks to recover from the physical exhaustion. The critters, plants and irreplaceble stuff took 3 trips back and forth in a commercial-sized rental van. The horse traveled professionally and I heartily recommend the shipper, who does a fabulous job. They even kept him on video due to his small airway disease (horsey seasonal COPD). On closing day, my car was packed to the hilt on my 4th and final trip here. The rest went by professional moving van, and they did a great job too.

Only 1 thing was broken while packing. One elderly finch passed several weeks after arrival, which I chalk up to his age more than anything.

But talk about exhausting....aaaack.

I don't know about the "sweet" part, but the rest of your statement is accurate.

Do these people EVER stop bitching?

When I moved up here to NH, I loaded up a 25ft Budget truck to the brim with all of my family's stuff, including 4 cats and a 120lb Chocolate Lab sharing the rumble seat, drove 600+ miles straight through the night, and had the truck mostly UNloaded (except for heavy furniture) by the time Sparky got home the following afternoon. Then, flew BACK down to Maryland, picked up Mom and the kids, and drove nonstop back up here. Meh.

She's what, 21 years old? How much friggin' stuff can she have. Please.

Put your big girl panties on, you spoiled little princess, buck up, and do what you gotta do. Life is hard. Get over it.

Moving Takes Courage.
“The national budget must be balanced. The public debt must be reduced; the arrogance of the authorities must be moderated and controlled. Payments to foreign governments must be reduced, if the nation doesn't want to go bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance.”

The worst move I ever made was across the street.  At least there is something to be said for packing like items together and getting rid of junk.

I'd hate to move. After 24 years my garage is like a Chinese puzzle box. Years of keeping odds and ends from various engineering projects that the inner Scotsman just can't let go of.

She was in NYC but went back home to Alabama this spring. She had said earlier she was going to attend grad school at Duke, but I didn't think it was that far away.

When lil Ava moves, so does the earth.  :whistling:
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

She wants to add a useless graduate degree to her useless undergrad degree.

She'll be able to put together some killer anti-American YouTube clips.

Helps the flow...

Want to bitch about moving, talk to the military family's that move every few years.

The government will contract for all your belongings to be moved anywhere the world. So a contractor comes into your home with 2 or 3 movers and the truck driver to pack up for you and get your belongings onto the truck in as short a time as possible.

Here is where the fun begins, insurance on items goes by weight, so items that are collectable that weigh less then a pound that you bought for $80.00 each become smashed, you receive $3.00 each.

What a interesting time for us who hop scotched from coast to coast and over seas.

A good discussion when one gets to a new port of call and meet others is what did you loose in the move.

Opening the boxes on arrival is fun the box may be labled kitchen but one woman who changed her baby's diaper found that  dirty diaper packed in her crock pot.    Full ashtrays and even garbage bags are in there somewhere.

Missing items is a problem, it is seldom baby clothing it is the valuable stuff that disappears, never logged on as item and no way to prove one ever owned it.

With all the confusion of packing, unless you have no children to distract you, can stand as a overseer and log each item in, demand all records in triplicate, moving will cost you time and money to track down Grandpas clock or mothers silver.   -----Grandpas clock weighed 5 pounds so you get $20.00 for it.
