The grocery store, the gun, and my free speech rights [View all]

Last edited Sun Jul 21, 2013, 01:34 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1)
Earlier today before I mowed the lawn and had to take some allergy pills, I was at the grocery store. There in the line behind me, when I was checking out, was someone carrying a gun on their hip. I didn't say anything. It's totally legal here in my state, after all. But, I just felt like they were somehow inhibiting my freedom to speech. I can't exactly figure out the how, or the why, or the what of the whole thing.

Maybe I was afraid to speak to the cashier? Maybe I thought that something would happen if I made a sudden move? Like if I pulled out my wallet too fast, the crazy person behind me would think I'm going for a knife to shank him, or somebody else? I mean, who needs a gun in the freaking grocery store? That meat you're buying is already dead, I promise you won't have to shoot it. I felt very conscious of all of my movements, like I was being watched, like a penned up animal at the zoo.

When I got out to my car, I just sat behind the steering wheel, angry. I wrapped my fingers tightly around the wheel, and just sat there, all tense, feeling uneasy, and flustered about the whole ordeal. I felt like I wasn't in control of the situation inside of that store at all.

I felt like I had been silenced. I felt like you would after being admonished by an authority figure, when you have no rebuttal. I felt like a child who had been caught with his hand in the cookie jar. I felt like I was the one who had done something wrong.

Why did I feel this way? I'm still pissed about it. If I can figure out why, I can fight it next time. Sorry for venting.

Let's just assume this really happened...

It's simple, DUmmy: you felt this way because you are, to borrow a base, vernacular term, a *****. Someone carrying a gun shouldn't intimidate you in the least unless they're pointing it at you, which they weren't. People like you are why France surrendered.
This signature is intended to remind you that we are on conquered land.

This is the first sensible argument I've seen against open carry.

This DUmmy is claiming it will prevent checkout-line bouncy tales.

That is not a good thing at all.

29. i recently had the same experience in a store. first time i've ever seen anyone with a handgun

inside a store.

it really disturbed me. i had an urge to call the police and report him, of all things, though i knew it was ridiculous (& he wasn't doing anything illegal). but i felt like it was wrong.

it didn't help that the guy was acting like a jerk in kind of a subtle way -- loudly talking about some public issue with a smirk on his face. (I almost felt like he was daring someone to contradict him, but no doubt that's my own emotional reaction and 'reading in-to').

i didn't like it.

Guy in line had a gun - not causing any problem, it's Arizona and it's commonplace. I don't particularly like it and I don't understand the need for it. Next customer in line start's reaming me a new asshole about how I'm putting his children at risk by not confronting the guy with the gun. Didn't exactly warm me to his position, but if he the only way he felt he could deal with it was to blame an 18-year-old cashier making $3.25 an hour for his fears, that says something about him.

DUmmie left out a few details....baggie pants, hoodie and black.....but to mention that would make him racist.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

What a stupid thing to say. People also carry their cell phones, makeup(in their purse), id, pictures, etc in to eat whoppers too and at what time are any of those things 'needed' to eat a whopper. People just carry things essential or meaningful to them in some way and it doesn't mean they are going to use them. So now we get to the heart of the liberal argument against guns really; they are the perpetual children who feel bad that a big bad authority figure is around(and that holstered gun is as good as a teacher of yore's switch in making them feel like children). This makes me want every law abiding citizen to have one. Can you imagine the civility if all it takes to shut up the liberal children and their feewings is having a holstered weapon on your hip? We may have stumbled onto gold as to how to get at least white liberals to behave properly in public. That's why that OP was seething with anger in his car; in that world he couldn't have the uncivilized free-for-all, talk shit to anyone and everyone he is used to. As someone else said he is a ***** who doesn't have the courage to stand by his convictions. We would never had a revolutionary war if there were more like him in the late 1700's intimidated by any show of might.

Because you are a pansy.  You fear guns, and the men who wear them. You fear those who might even keep guns in their homes.

Fear. Fear and hate define liberal socialists. Real men and women who can stand up for themselves are a threat to a liberal. And so they will hate you. and believe me, they will kill you if given power.

First they will come for your guns, then the purge will come. It is SOP for every socialist regime.

Funny most LEO's in uniform open carry. Many also CC when not in uniform. Surely the military taught you better situational awareness than that.
I also wonder why the primitive claims only 18 years in the "Army"? Most people with that many years in would stay the extra 2 for retirement. If the primitive is telling the truth I wonder if it's discharge was involuntary.

Not to defend the DUmmy, but I suppose if it was in the 90s he could have took early retirement. I know whole a bunch of e-5s at 15 years retired when I was in.

Odds are he did come up hot on a piss test though, or it took him 18 years to get the medical discharge he sought.

One of the wife's friends is true loon. She was over at the house and I received a Buck 120 one liner from an ebay auction. I was admiring it and putting a better edge on it (Buck Knives, hard to dull, harder to sharpen) when she comes in to my shop. She got her panties in bunch about the knife. The scrunt demanded I put it away because "it is intimidating." Just something in the genome of leftist losers that makes them scared of just about anything except big all oppressive government.

Quote
The San Ysidro McDonald's massacre was a mass murder that occurred on July 18, 1984 in San Ysidro, California. James Oliver Huberty entered a McDonald's restaurant, fatally shot 21 people, including five children, and injured 19 others, before he was eventually shot dead by a police sniper. It was the deadliest shooting rampage in the United States until the 1991 Luby's massacre.
