I saw this floating around the web this week, and was wondering the same thing.  What if Trayvon had been white, and the shooter black?  Seems that this already happened, in New York State, of all places.

What would happen if a black man armed with a handgun confronted "suspicious persons" in his neighborhood? What would happen if the "suspicious persons" were unarmed white teens, one of them was shot dead, and the shooter claimed self-defense?

This is not an exercise in mere speculation. We know what would happen in such a case. There would be no white mobs in the street chanting "No justice, no peace!" There would be no whites holding a "million hoodie march" in New York City. There would be no white equivalent of Al Sharpton, the professional race-baiter behind the 1987 Tawana Brawley hoax, leading marches in the streets of the shooter's hometown. There would be no Federal civil rights investigation by the Justice Department. There would be no comments from a president who seems congenitally unable to keep his mouth shut on matters involving left-wing political correctness. And there would be no national media attention from biased, left-wing "reporters."

We know this because in fact, such an event occurred in 2009 in Greece, N.Y., a suburb of Rochester. Roderick Scott, a black man, shot and killed an unarmed white teen, Christopher Cervini, whom he believed was burglarizing a neighbor's car, with a licensed .40 cal. handgun.

There are many similarities between the Scott-Cervini case and the George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin case in Florida. In both cases, there had been a spate of criminal activity in the neighborhood. In both cases, the shooters called 911 to report suspicious activity, yet chose to confront the unarmed suspects outside their residence and off their own property prior to the arrival of the police. In both cases, the shooters claimed that they felt threatened, and fired in self-defense. In both cases, local law enforcement applied relevant state law.

Unlike Florida, New York does not have a "stand your ground" law. New York law allows a person to use deadly force to defend his residence from home invasion only as a last resort. It does not allow the use of deadly force to prevent a property crime, and requires retreat if possible. Thus, while Zimmerman was not arrested under Florida law, Scott was tried for manslaughter.

If Trayvon had been white, NO ONE would know his name.  Just as no one knows the name of the white baby shot by black teen thieves.

And I am getting sick of all the "black parents must talk to black teens" crap.  All black parents have to tell their kids not to run from police, not to act suspiciously, not to this, not to that...blah, blah, blah.  My VERY white, blond son got all those same lectures, and so did his white older sister.  And for that matter, his blond younger sister.  (Though not my oldest or youngest, some kids just don't go looking for trouble.)  

ANY responsible parent that has a kid with an attitude and dresses like it will tell that kid how to be smart in tense situations.  


And the white people jumping in to say, "I never had to worry about my kid being shot because he wore a hoodie."  Well, NO S&($ Sherlock.  I never worried about any of my kids getting shot for wearing a hoodie, but I did explain to my son why he was watched like a shoplifter when he wore huge baggy pants, and if I still had him home, I'd tell him not to go beating on some strange guy if that guy might be armed!!!  

So many Americans are SO Stupid.

If Trayvon was white and George was black and all else being equal the results of the confrontation would have been the same. It is the aftermath that would have been different. There would have been no media distorting the facts. There would have been no crowds pandering to the usual race baiters and racial shakedown artists calling for an immediate arrest. The cops and prosecutors would have been allowed to do their jobs and come to the proper conclusions. In the end George wouldn't have been arrested, the case would have been closed and there would have been no trial.

Roderick Scott was clearly in danger when Christopher Cervini lunged at him. There were two other people with Cervini. Scott was also acquitted by a majority White jury pool.

yeah, but legally Scott was in a bit of a pickle. First, he was outside his home. Second, he wasn't charged with Murder Two, rather with Manslaughter. This is in contrast to the GZ case (that is, the Manslaughter charge -- GZ was outside of his home as well).

Of course, the prosecutors in both cases completely forgot about the inherent right to defend oneself, and that's something that both juries did NOT forget.
