San Diego mayor apologizes amid harassment claims

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego Mayor Bob Filner on Thursday apologized for his behavior and said he needs help, amid allegations that he sexually harassed women.

Filner said he has failed to respect women who work for him and intimidated them at times. He added his behavior is inappropriate and wrong.

"If my behavior doesn't change, I cannot succeed in leading our city," Filner said in a statement. His comments came a day after a prominent former supporter called for him to resign.

"You have every right to be disappointed in me. I only ask that you give me an opportunity to prove I am capable of change, so that the vision I have for our city's future can be realized," he said

1. Nope not shocked or surprised

After this morning's presser.

Sent the story early, but...

Now let's see Kevarick, local GOP head, goes for the recall election.

And no, these were not Republicans... The people talking to press in the morning are the who's who of the democratic big wigs locally.

2. Filner is a Democrat, darnit. I think he should resign and get out of the news cycle ASAP.

filner has already effected many positive changes for my city in his short tenure. there's a process for dealing with these incidents in the workplace, and it doesn't appear, at this stage, that filner crossed any lines that would merit his resignation.

Dogged by allegations of sexual harassment, San Diego Mayor Bob Filner admitted Thursday "that I need help" but stopped short of resigning.
"I'm clearly doing something wrong," he said.

Some of his longtime backers are urging Filner to step down. Among them is former city councilwoman Donna Frye -- a Democrat, like Filner, who recently worked in the mayor's office. She said Thursday that after hearing allegations directly from several women, "I could not not act." She sent Filner a letter Tuesday asking him to step down.

Filner acknowledged Frye's request in a statement Thursday and implicitly admitted there was merit to her concerns.

"I am embarrassed to admit that I have failed to fully respect the women who work for me and with me, and that at times I have intimidated them," he said. "It's a good thing that behavior that would have been tolerated in the past is being called out in this generation for what it is: inappropriate and wrong."

No women have come forward publicly to detail allegations against Filner. He has not been charged with any crime, nor has anyone filed a lawsuit against him.

Another thread from Nadin...but that's it from the DUmp in the past 24 hours.  Had this been a Republican, there would be a hundred threads.

Hypocrites, yet again.

"I am embarrassed to admit that I have failed to instill fear in the women who work for me and with me even though, at times, I have intimidated them instead of sexually harassing them," he said. "It really pisses me off that behavior that would have been tolerated in the past is being called out in this generation."

Fixed for truth.

Sexual harassment will get you in trouble but if you're successful, at least get a blow job, then you are rewarded.

It's a lib resume enhancer.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Because it's so closely related, it deserves to be included.

That's all fine and dandy. Then she had to reply to her own thread.

4. t'was funny, but when I was told this

I was all but surprised.

When I was in college, oh another lifetime. there were rumors of a professor chasing tails. I gotta wonder.
And I will leave it at that.

Regardless, my editor went, are you sitting down? I thought she was going to reveal a political anomaly. My reaction was... another politician chasing tail... so what is new?

That said, I agree with you... and the only reason why this leaves a bad taste, is that the people releasing this are not even his political enemies.
In other words, she doesn't know.  The guy sure didn't chase hers. :lmao: :rotf:
Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Well, of course he didn't, snookums.  He came nowhere near the (D)/(R) line now did he?  See how this works, (D)U-bee?
