High-capacity mags directly linked to mass killing of
« on: June 30, 2013, 01:59:09 PM »
truthful posts.

My Dog but they are scared.

First the background OP:

Quote
madamesilverspurs (6,837 posts)

Gun owners say goodbye to high-capacity magazines at Freedom Shoot (Colorado)

blah-blah-blah

Stupid article totally misstates the nature of the stupid law.

Whatevs.

This exchange starts:

Quote
Travis_0004 (1,010 posts)

4. This law will be easy to get around.

I have a .223 rifle, and buying 16 round magazines is illegal. Its not illegal to buy 10 round mags chambered in .50 beowulf.

You know what fits in a 10 round .50 baowulf mag? 30 .223 rounds, and its all perfectly legal.

Isn't "Travis" one of them "county" names?

Probably a redneck that hates minorities.

But then his assertion is contested:

Quote
rdharma (2,624 posts)

5. And who manufactures 10 round mags for .50 Beowulf?

Nobody! So if you think you're circumventing the law....... think again!

But then, suddenly:

Travis_0004 This message was hidden by Jury decision.

Why, what on Earth could Travis -- racist redneck though he certainly must be -- have said to get his post hidden?

C'mon, gang! Let's investigate!

A Jury voted 6-0 to hide this post on Sun Jun 30, 2013, 12:17 AM. Reason: This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)

6 to 0 to hide a URL that answers the interlocutor's direct inquiry.

A fluke, right?

Maybe not. Here's a different exchange on the same topic:

Duckhunter935 (1,330 posts)

7. I see they don't

<followed by pics of a conventional .223 mag and the Alexander Arms mag>

But then it happens again:

Well, what the hell is THAT all about?

And as you can see, some of the ones here at DU prove me right on a regular basis...

And then an entirely different sub-thread:

Quote
NickB79 (9,544 posts)

14. Grandfathered magazines are still perfectly legal to own and use

And there are literally HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of them in the US.

If someone in CO wanted a new 30-rd magazine, all they have to do is drive to a neighboring state, buy a bunch, and drive home.

You see, magazines DON'T HAVE SERIAL NUMBERS OR MANUFACTURING DATES ON THEM! This makes the new law virtually un-enforcible, as the burden of proof falls upon the state to prove your magazines are illegal and not just grandfathered models.

Whoever wrote this article knows very little about the new law.

21. Read my post above.

And why are you giving advice on violating the law? Hmmmmmm?

An again:

AUTOMATED MESSAGE: Results of your Jury Service

At Sun Jun 30, 2013, 01:54 AM an alert was sent on the following post:

Now, I don't live in CO, but if I did, do you know how much this would affect me?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=3132466

REASON FOR ALERT:

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See <a href="http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=aboutus#communitystandards" target="_blank">Community Standards[/url].)

ALERTER'S COMMENTS:

Advocating and explaining how to violate laws limiting high capacity magazines.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Jun 30, 2013, 02:05 AM, and the Jury voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: The rants of a small, fearful mind, but small minds are part of the price you pay for democracy.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: This isn't the place to advocate breaking the law on guns, etc. We all know that, even the troll who wrote that post.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: not hide worthy
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: I support hiding this post not specifically because it advocates breaking the law. That alone would not motivate me to hide. What I find despicable about the post is the apparent total disregard for dangers associated with high capacity magazines. I use to own an AR-15 and a Mini-14. I know the advantages to having hi-cap magazines. Although I also admit that it is not enough to limit magazines to 15 rounds, I also find a benevolent motivation behind the law. And I do think it will help.

With that in mind, this poster is advocating violating a law that is both helpful and necessary in protecting human beings from spree killers. It reflects the opinion of many gun nuts; which is not to be confused with gun owners in general. I take his or her comments as exceptionally crass, self absorbed, idiotic and insensitive.

Hide it.

Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

What this country needs is large capacity magazines for "The Truth Machine".

When I was a soldier, we killed mass amounts of pop up targets with standard capacity magazines.
Ever since I got out, my friends and I have destroyed thousands of beer cans, hundreds of phone books, and a couple of wood piles. A cord of wood takes a lot of rounds...

And this surprises you?  Sorry sweet pea, none of these laws are meant to be enforcible.  They simply further the fascist agenda.  Didn't you do your homework?

Liberal thinking is a two-legged stool and magical thinking is one of the legs, the other is a combination of self-loating and misanthropy.  To understand it, you would have to be able to sit on that stool while juggling two elephants, an anvil and a fragmentation grenade, sans pin.

Senator Blumenthal, he of the phony Vietnam veteran claim, make an incredibly asinine statement on a show on Bloomberg TV the other night, that the youngest victim of the Tucson shooter was shot 11 times (true) and had Loughner had a smaller magazine she would have lived (almost total bullshit.)  He used "statistic" after questionable conjecture that if only we were limited to single-shot magazines, nobody would die in mass shootings, blah blah blah.

Anyone who thinks liberals aren't ultimately out to take every single weapon away from you, I also have a bridge you might like to buy.

No kidding Sparky. If gun control worked no one in the places it's been enforced would still be dying from gunshot wounds
