Mother accused of falling asleep and accidentally smothering her baby: 'This was preventable'


 
JACKSON, MI – Jackson County Probate Court officials expect jurors this week to decide whether Amanda Redman should retain parental rights to three of her surviving children.

Redman cannot have contact with her children – ages 9, 8 and 4 – who are now in the care of their fathers.

An eight-person jury listened to a nearly two-hour recording Monday morning between Redman and police — recorded April 4, about two days after she is accused of unintentionally killing her infant daughter.

The parental rights termination trial is expected to wrap up by Wednesday, June 5. It continues Monday afternoon.

Redman admitted to a detective she drank a large amount of alcohol the night of April 1 and fell asleep on a couch with her 27-day-old daughter, Amillia Redman. She said she woke to find the baby beneath her chest. Authorities allege she smothered the child to death.

This woman should never be a mother again. I don't believe her "story". What an easy way to kill your baby, and not take the blame. "Oh she was sleeping, how could she know what she was doing".

Now wait a minute boi, maybe she was just pro choice and decided she didn't want to be a mother to that clump of cells after all. How can we judge her and how can we infringe on the mother's right to choose to get plastered and smother her baby? Just think of it as a really late term abortion.

Have to understand this woman with other children to care for brings home another one and brings it to her bed to breast feed.

Not easy for the mother , and she brings the baby to bed with her at 3 days old to feed. The mother has just given birth an is not in tip top shape to care for anyone much less herself.  

Ah yes I do relate to this, I brought home a 2 day old baby with 3 little kids in the house and just collapsed on the bed to have EX hubby come in to ask when I was to cook lunch.    

I could have gone to sleep, out like a light and smothered the baby, all kinds of things I today think of, perhaps I should have gathered up all what strength I had and beat up the father.  

Men have no idea what birthing takes out of a woman even if they are there when the event happens.  

What they think that 2 days later the mother is going to be on her feet and like nothing has happened ?  
there are 2-3 other kids to care for and the father thinks the mother should be up and doing so ????

This "mother" had 6 kids, her first 2 were taken away from her because she overfed her 3 yr old son to the point that he weighed 120 pounds (no, that isn't a typo) at 3 yrs old. Babies 4 and 5 were also removed from her care. This was baby #6, and she downed a few bottles of liquor and then crashed on top her her 27 day infant, and suffocated the poor baby to death. Save your pity for someone who deserves it.
