Anyone else here too depressed about Trayvon Martin to watch reports on the trial?

I don't feel like being sad/mad right now. The thought of that kid's character being assassinated over the next few months is too much. His parents look so much older than they did. I don't usually watch trial coverage. I zone out. But I actively don't want to get sucked into this one. Guns, and fantasies of acting out heroics with them, are a American disgrace. I want my head in the sand.

Yeah pointing out that Trayvon was just another thug is character assassination. 

You have to have character in order to have it assassinated.

I can't say for certain that Zimmerman was in the right, but I am fairly certain that if the white Hispanic hadn't of gunned down the kid that he would have been gunned down eventually either by another thug or the police.

2. what makes me angry is if it was a black man who shot a white kid

and all the evidence was the same there would be no question as to guilt. we wouldn't be having this debate .

it would be more like Ariel Castro where we pretty much know he is guilty .

but it's only because Trayvon is black that it's being treated as if he brought it on himself.

If the races were reversed, my opinion would be the same. I would think the kid was a thug and the jury would still be out on the guy who pulled the trigger as far as I am concerned. It is only liberals who think race is the most important factor in every situation. In fact all of DU would be on the black man's side by default since the dead kid would have been a white Hispanic.

I can't look at that murderer smirking.
Today I turned the tv on right when they were showing Trayvons unopened can if ice tea he bought from 7 eleven.

My guess... it would have gotten 30 seconds of coverage on the local news and none of us would have known Zimmerman's name at all.

LAVEEN - Police are saying more about a shooting at a Taco Bell Tuesday night in which one man died.

They're also identifying the victim as 29-year-old Daniel Adkins.

About 7:30 p.m., a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend ordered food at the Taco Bell drive-thru and were told to pull up while their order was prepared.

At the same time, Adkins stepped around a corner into the path of the vehicle and angry words were exchanged between he and the driver.

They got into an altercation and Adkins was shot once by the driver. He died at the scene.

The driver, a 22-year-old black male, called police but has not been arrested.

At first, the couple claimed that Adkins had a metal pipe that he swung at them -- but it turns out he was holding a dog leash with his yellow lab on the other end.

It's okay, neither does anyone else. It happened a couple of weeks after the Martin shooting but the media dropped it like a bad habit, and it got one thread on DU with one or two replies. In defense of the shooter, though, Mr. Adkins was carrying neither iced tea nor Skittles, he was just developmentally disabled, and as such his death not as tragic as that of a Skittle-eater.

You have blacks decimating other blacks by the Arizona Iced Tea tanker-load, but that doesn't merit a glance from the oh-so-concerned liberals at DU. Let someone of any other race kill a black person though, and the heavens crumble under the weight of the outrage and the howls for justice permeate the land.

I thought it would be good practice. I could not do it. And the 2014 one will be far more technical and far less riveting.

I think nads has it backwards:  A trial needs her to cover it.
