Then-Chief Justice John Marshall observed, “Between a balanced republic and a democracy, the difference is like that between order and chaos.”

John Adams warned in a letter, “Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet, that did not commit suicide.”

Images of John Deere mower blades.

https://www.google.com/search?q=john+deere+mower+blades&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=-PXJUez2Iq6FyQHdj4HYDw&biw=1366&bih=617&sei=_PXJUda6JqPYyAHekIDYAQ

I'm having a problem seeing machinings that prevent putting the blade on the wrong way.

Personally, the only problem I have with Deere is the people they have out in the field.

I don't think it's Deere, I think they make fantastic lawn tractors, the one I bought was great.

It's the service that Deere depends on, it sucks and it sucks bad.

Back in 1975 my dad paid 5k for a 16 HP John Deere 300 riding lawn mower/tractor. That thing saved us all a lot of work. Then they started to cheapen up some of the models to compete with other brands.

We had all the attachments (all at additional cost), and when my parents sold their house, the tractor was sold in 2000 for $2500 with all the accessories. The guy that owns it, is still using it. We always kept it covered in the garage, it still looked new, with the exception of the tiller and mower deck. The Kohler engine ran like a dream.

All the John Deere dealerships in the area where I lived did very good work. But I am sure there are dealerships that suck also.

In the 90's John Deere started to farm out a lot of the work that the factories used to do, I knew a group that used to do the dealership prep for combines before they were delivered. They made pretty good money, but I am not sure they were all that good at what they were doing. They finished the assembly, tested the picker heads, etc.

If I needed a lawn tractor, if I ever have grass again, I would purchase a John Deere. Not much grass here in the Mojave desert.

My dad has an early 70's JD 210 that he has mowed with since I was too little to remember.  I fully expect it to still be running when he passes on.

The new ones aren't built the same- not even close.

Everyone I know that had one of the older ones from the 70s seems to still have it, and they are still running and cutting grass.

My dad worked for a company that was a contract shipping company for Deere. They ended up with a load of used tractors. My dad and a friend bought a few, fixed, painted and tuned them up for resale. I doubt there would be any money in flipping the cheap ass tractors they make today.

Well, I think a bit of it might be true.

I bought a brand new green tractor mower from a local home improvement warehouse.

See, the way it was explained to me was that the green mowers are delivered to the home improvement warehouses disassembled and that the only way that they get assembled is that a crew from the local dealership come over and put them together.

Any warranty work goes back to the local dealer.

In my case a three week old green tractor mower was slipping the belt that drives the rear wheels. It was in the dealers shop for four weeks and no work had been done.

The very reason I work on my own stuff! Warranty or not. Most warranty work is very simple and I know it's right. I buy shop manuals for every piece of equipment, car, or truck I own.

Very nice.

That was actually an accidental purchase.  Honestly.  I sold the guys house and he wanted to sell it to me and quoted me a price of $3,000.  He paid $4,800 for it new and it had less than 60 hours on it.

While it is a very nice mower I didn't have $3,000 I was willing to part with at that moment so I told him I could only give him $2,500 and I figured he would take a pass.  He didn't.

 :thatsright:

Now that I've owned it a couple of months I'm glad I made the purchase.  I sold my old mower to my dad for $350 and he loves it so it all worked out.  Heh.  The only problem on the deal with my dad was he said I had to deliver it ... he lives 600 miles away!  LOL  I lost money on the deal but I got to see my folks for the weekend.   :yahoo:

I don't think I've seen that one.  I thought I had seen all of them but evidently not.

It was in the last couple of seasons.  When I saw this thread,  that scene immediately came to mind.
