In Quincy, Obama helped volunteers fill sandbags that are being trucked to reinforce levees on both sides of the Mississippi River, less than a mile away. Authorities expected the river at Quincy to reach a near-record level of 32 feet by Wednesday. Severe flooding already has hit Cedar Rapids, Iowa, northwest of Quincy.

"Since I've been involved in public office we've not seen this kind of devastation," Obama said as he used a shovel to fill bags being held by local resident Dylan Muldoon, 10. He vowed to push the federal and state governments to provide needed aid to the stricken areas.

Bush is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

If he showed up there filling sandbags it would be a photo op.  If he doesn't go then he hates the Mid-West.

The President only has so much that he can do during things like this.  The Governor is the one in charge and I believe I've read that FEMA is there helping. 

President Clinton came to Des Moines during the floods of '93, and it was a giant photo-op.  Nothing he did personally helped the people, the people took pretty good care of themselves without a ton of government help.

Airwolf, I'd doubt that you'd have the rampant looting of NO because the people of Iowa are good people who aren't blaming the government for their every problem, nor relying on the government for their every need.  They're helping each other.

We don't go for that kind of crap here. We help our friends and neighbors no matter who they are.Well ok, Unless they are the scum of the earth we might not do much but we as a state are busy helping our fellow Iowans get back on their feet and help them fill sandbags and watch over thier homes and businesses.

They said on KFAB 1110 am in Omaha that the water in Iowa City has damaged 16 buildings at ISU. The water in Cedar Rapids is going down and that south of here in Hamburg, Iowa, the flood warnings are still in effect.
