U.S. soldiers set to deploy to Egypt at a tense time

By Cheryl K. Chumley-The Washington Times Friday, June 21, 2013

A group of U.S. soldiers are rocked and ready to deploy to Egypt for a 9-month peacekeeping mission.

More than 400 American troops will ultimately go, as part of the long-standing Multinational Force and Observers peacekeeping mission.

Their assignment: To man posts and security checkpoints along the Sinai Peninsula. They’re also tasked with reporting violations of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel.

Although they will be far from Cairo, where protests against the government have raised concerns in Israel, they have been trained to respond to any threats, including protests and riots, to the security of Israel or the peace agreement.

But we legal citizen taxpayers don't mind, do we?

They left out the most important part of their mission. To get shot in the back by their muzzie counterparts.

BTDT.  Apparently, nobody on this thread knows Jack Shit about the mission, the location of the US forces, or the area.  There aren't any Egyptian or Israeli troops in the US sector (Or the other two battalion sectors) and both countries make a shit-ton of money out of having us babysit rocks.  The US sector is along the Gulf of Aquaba and the indigenous population is a very thin smear of desert Arabs who mutually hate the Egyptians and the Israelis, semi-nomadic Muslim rednecks living far up the wadis with the only accessible fresh water.  There are a four or five coastal towns, where some actual Egyptians live, which are entirely dependent on being either pit stops on the coastal highway or the tourist trade, most of which is European Christians.

Don't you be putting actual facts and personal knowledge into this thread, this should be an outrage.

We do know that more of our military forces should not be sent there.

You do realize we've been there since the early 80's right?

Yes, but why send more of them?

I don't think they're increasing the numbers.  This is just about the newest group getting ready to go.

IMO this reporter had probably never heard of it and thought she stumbled onto something new.  It's one of the least known about (outside the army anyway) deployments we go on.

Maybe I misunderstood, too. I'll take a "wait and see" approach on this.

Thanks.
